Do you need to send AMC scores?

My school doesn’t treat the AMC test very seriously, so it’s pretty much a… “Hey, you do pretty well in math. Come take the AMC today,” type of thing. Do I have to send in my AMC scores to schools like MIT or CalTech? I have not qualified for AIME, as I’ve never studied for it. I’m a rising junior, so I guess I’ll try to qualify for AIME this year. However, if I do not, do I still need to send my scores?

Sorry for double posting, but I couldn’t get back in time to edit… Do you guys think it’s worth buying AoPS Volume 1 and self-studying it? Will I have time to study by February? I’m also going for USABO (aiming for camp), so I don’t know if I’d have enough time. I find math to be awesome but Biology to be…awesome…er :)… Advice? Thanks.

You’re not required to send AMC scores, but it doesn’t hurt to self-report them, as long as you score decently.

@Newdle, it looks like in your situation, studying to make AIME wouldn’t be a bad idea. AOPS Vol 1 is a great book, and it’ll definitely be all you need to boost your AMC scores. A thing that would help is knowing your past AMC scores, to judge how close you are to making AIME.

@DigitalKing‌ I just ordered a copy of AOPS Volume 1… Excited :D! I’ve honestly done horrible on my AMC10s. I think it’s also due to the fact that I didn’t know leaving a question blank gives you 1.5 points automatically O_o…

@Newdle Great purchase! Definitely won’t regret it!
Good luck on the AMCs next year! :D
