@Consolation Maybe Alexander McQueen for the clutch? I was lusting after a knuckle clutch of his for a black tie event. But it was just too pricy. Or maybe Judith Leiber Couture? Even pricier!
Has anyone mentioned Céline handbags yet? (Just looked back and checked, yes Céline has been mentioned). They have some gorgeous bags for every taste.
They are definitely in that upper tier of designer. Wallets start at around $700. Small purses begin at around $1800.

Oh and Gucci purses are absolutely gorgeous. I love the new appliqué/ embroidered handbags.
This is the most stunning bag I have ever laid my eyes on. https://www.gucci.com/us/en/pr/gifts/gifts-for-her/womens-handbags/sylvie-embroidered-leather-top-handle-bag-p-431665CVLZG4374?position=11&listName=SearchResultGridComponent
Someone please buy it so I can live vicariously through you lol
@aMacMom It was Judith Leiber Couture!
I’ve never wanted a designer bag. I have a wonderful bag made by Knomo I use for my work which I believe was designed to hold a laptop. It’s got a shoulder strap and is indestructable. I take it building sites, come home wipe off all the dust and it’s as good as new.
For other occasions I have a small cork bag and a somewhat bigger bag made out of old fire hoses.
Outlier here. NO WAY! I value function so much more than form or branding. I find so many name brands to be ugly. No advertising for me. I also use one purse only- no desire to have to transfer everything from one to another. Keep a lot of small stuff that ends up being useful- H needed a band aid yesterday and I had one…
I used to always get leather but my last one was actually a touch too small to fit a paperback or folding umbrella easily (outside the main part- needed in summer rains in FL when go in/out of stores) so I gave it away and acquired a synthetic one that is not too big but can be useful everyday and on vacation. I figure I can get a new one if this one wears out quickly. Practical here. I also can’t see spending hundreds of dollars on something just because of the name. Especially if I don’t like its looks or functionality (eg zippered closure so things can’t fall out when on the car’s seat…).
Last month, I picked up a bag like this at a night market in Bangkok.

I wasn’t familiar with the brand - I just liked it. I’m sure I got a knock-off since I bargained to a price of ~$32, and I probably still didn’t get a good deal!
re above. As long as you like it and it lasts more than a month or two it is worth the price. No more than you would pay for anything at a local non high end store.
@VeryHappy — I don’t know if you live anywhere near Woodbury Commons, but they have a Tod’s outlet store. If you time it right, you can find a bag for 2/3 off retail. Usually the bags are from prior seasons, but their styles do not change enough that I notice.
Oooooooooooooooo – not that close, but close enough that it would be worth the trip.
I confess I like designer handbags and yes I have bought from online consignment shops as well.
After buying a few brand new I discovered that almost new is often good enough.
However I go with non logo brands mostly like Bottega Veneta and Balenciaga.
My job requires me to be discreet and not flashy.
Anyway I now have enough for my needs and since I rotate them they do not wear out as much so no more bags for me.
I can’t bring myself to part with the money. I’ve picked up some nice Fossil handbags on eBay which is about as close to a designer handbag as I’m ever going to get.
I’ve been very satisfied with Target knock-offs, for anything that seems trendy for the season.
I usually order handbags from YOOX. They carry a wide range of designer brands and prices, though mostly from previous seasons. Many bags are designed and handmade in Europe. I mark the bags I like and wait for friends and family or other sale event. I’ve got some amazing deals, but can never bring myself to pay more than a few hundred $$. I get bored carrying the same bags over several years, and also change my style periodically, so I want to be able to replace them without regrets.
I had a Coach years ago (80’s?) and used it a lot and then just put it away. A year or two ago, my NYC D1 asked if she could have it. She said she saw similar ones at Brooklyn flea markets for a lot of money. I gave it to her.
She has a Prada bag given to her by a former admirer that she rarely uses. She is not into designer stuff, although could afford ( except for her the nice Cartier watch she bought herself). So I suggested she give me the Prada since I gave her the Coach. Somehow, she didn’t think this was a fair trade. Hahaha. I wonder why?
I forgot!! I have another designer bag that I take on vacation. Looks like this one - just denim blue.

Got it from RueLaLa’s super sale. ![]()
I enjoy reading this thread and seeing the purses.
But as for myself…is Baggallini designer??!
@abasket, it sounds Italian, ergo it IS designer
Nope. I am VERY picky about purses, but it is for function (badge/key compartment, zipped areas etc). I change per season and probably buy one every year or two, never more than $60.
Regardless of your purse, here’s a hint that might work for wallets. Pick a bright color - mine is red. That way it stands out in the lining of my black/dark purses and tan purses. (I have red glasses case for same reason. I get tired of fishing around for stuff that blends in with purse lining color.(
Agree with @colorado_mom about having accessories in your purse that have “pop” of color, especially if purse lining is dark. I’ve gotten to where I prefer lighter-colored purse linings so things don’t disappear.
I think I have close to 50+ bags.
I do love beautiful bags, probably more than shoes. My go to brands are LV, Prada, Chanel and Gucci. My girls tend to like younger brands like Mulberry.
We just came back Thailand. We also visited a night market. It totally freaked me out because they were so aggressive, and there were a lot of strip clubs right next to the market.
Wow 50
That must be quite a beautiful collection.
I thought I had a lot at about half that no.
