Do you pay more to shop at locally owned stores?

Our local Barnes and Noble is usually packed with cars (not just this time of the year) and I don’t like to go there because of the traffic and parking issues. It is far more efficient to order from Amazon and have stuff shipped to my office (we get an incredible amount of stuff from Amazon in our office). I understand that it costs them to operate a bricks and mortar shop and that they provide benefits to the community (they have story hours, provide meeting space, provide free WiFi, etc.) but it seems that they are doing quite well without me there.
