Do you people even study?

Not really. I find it hard to focus well enough to effectively study. I usually am just fine with what I pick up in class.

I only study for honors chem., and get tutoring from my math teacher after school. And that’s primarily due to the fact that I’m not a math/science person. I’m more humanities based, and NEVER study for anything involving subjects within that 'realm," I guess you could say. I get high A’s (95+) in the humanities, and B’s in math and science. Not so bad, I guess.

what do you mean “you people”?

but no, as a senior, I never study any more.

Study? I barely study. Sure I would do my homework and all. History and english tests is easy just got to memorize stuff. Except when it come to essay that the problem. Can’t really “study” for math or chem/phyisic because you basically have to memorize formula. Spanish I actually do study for and made easier by the teacher (Flashcards are genius) and even computer help I could look up anytime. But no I never really study unless it doing HW or spanish.

Now that I think about it… not really

I study an immense amount. I am so jealous of the people who don’t have to.

However, everyone at my school studies for AP classes. It would be impossible to pass otherwise, given the difficulty of the tests. We don’t even cover all the material on the tests in class. Also, tests are 70-90% of my grade in all of my AP classes, so it’s not like homework and projects will just bump it up. I actually have to get B+/A-'s on the tests to get A’s in the class. But my school is known for being very competitive. I guess I’ll be more prepared for college, but it sucks right now.

How is that unusual? I have to get As on the tests to get As in the class :/.

Study. Not really.
I do homework to reinforce everything, but I never really study unless I really have trouble with something.

I’m taking only 5 classes, and some are likely considered weird.
Bible: pure memorization. Yes, I have to study 10 minutes before each quiz.
Spanish III: Study the night before a quiz/test for an hour.
Philosophy: Half hour before a quiz/test.
Law: Not really. Maybe 10 minutes before a test?
Calc: I read over my notes multiple times, and I try to spread out my reviews, i.e. once a week or so. I don’t do the assigned problems though, which would take a LOT more time.

The last time I remember actually studying was for finals last year.
Pre-Cal: Wing it
History: 5-10 minutes, just pure memorization
Spanish: 5 minutes tops
Physics: Wing it
English: Read the Spark notes
I have a 4.15 UW on a 4.3 scale so it works out well for me :)

Study… Eh. Not so much. The only classes I study for are Spanish and Biology. For both, I use the studyhall before to make or use flashcards. That’s all I do. For math, we get review assignments and I do those the night before. But I don’t consider any of this actual studying. I never sit down and read over notes.

To the three posts above:

What the hell! At my school we actually have to study/try to do well.

I feel bad when my teacher ask me how much time I spend on studying.

@dfree small sample size, I guess. I came from a less competitive school my freshman year, and most of my friends that I was outscoring freshman year there get A’s in AP classes without much effort. At the 4-5 schools I have close friends at, classes have tests as 50-60% of the grade with projects/homework, etc. filling up the rest. I actually almost never get homework, unless it’s an essay or something. We basically only have tests in the grade book, which I had thought was unusual for a high school based on everyone else I know.

I don’t really study much. I wants to study more to get an A in AP Lit but study what? Spanish I do require studying but it is usally during school.

In fact I do not. The most I’ll study is the period before a test. If it’s APUS perhaps the whole day.

@alwaysleah

Weird…

In my APUSH class for instance, we’ve had like 4 (pop) quizzes, a test (next test is on Thurs!), and a small debate this quarter. The debate is like 5-10% of the quarter grade, and the quizzes + tests combine for about 90-95% of the quarter grade. As for homework, I don’t get it assigned for a grade too often, but in APUSH we have pop quizzes about every other chapter. We have to read the textbook for the pop quizzes otherwise we’re totally unprepared. Thus, we do homework without getting a direct grade for it, and the pop quizzes are pretty hard.

The higher the percentage of test score in total grade, the scarier and more intense a class is. I think my alg 2 hns class has 60-70% test grade, 15% final, and the rest is classwork and hw.

@cchanged

I personally like classes with a heavier emphasis on tests, because, firstly, I’m a very good test taker so the system plays to my strengths, and, secondly, insignificant homework means less stress (for me at least).

Personally, I think that going to school is so pointless. My teachers go too slowly, don’t cover everything what is going to be on the test because they have to adjust to all the students. Honestly, I always self-study, like pick up a book, read a chapter twice, do the hws and I always get 95-100 on all of my tests. So, I think it is going to be easy for me next year in college coz I have good study skills and don’t really need help.
