Do you remember..........

“Or just plain stamps. Both my brother and husband collected stamps from around the world as kids and put them in special stamp collecting albums.”

Yes, sign me on to this beautiful activity. We carried it forward with the kids for a while. I have my 2016 philatelic catalog near me.

“And they weren’t even nerds!”

Okay, I’m gonna have to look away sheepishly at this point.

The Smithsonian National Postal Museum in DC is fascinating. Very near Union Station.

Yep…I liked Close up Toothpaste too!!

Re: Mr. Potato Head. When I got my kids theirs, I was really surprised to,see the plastic potato! My set had only the little parts…you had to provide your own real potato!

I’m pretty sure Sally Starr (Our Gal Sal) was local to southeastern PA/NJ area.

My brother had the coolest toy. A Mattel Vac-U-Form.

I played with it when he was outside playing but he always knew because of the melted plastic smell ( which now when I think about it was probably toxic) …I really liked it. It was worth getting him mad.

I played Army all the time with my dads pump action bb shotgun. Never used bb’s but it made a very loud bang. Once we were playing near the street and this guy stopped his car and chased me because he thought i shot at him. I was probably 8 yrs old. Well, I had the advantage because I knew where I could dive through the thin part of the hedge in the neighbors yard. I ran through the yards and ran into the house and hid behind our basement furnace til my brother came and found me. Oh, the good old days!

I was quite the tomboy but I did love my Thumbelina doll. I still have it and it still works. Big pink knob on the back would slowly turn the dolls head ever so gently. The whole body moved when you laid it down. Very realistic.

Unlike my Chatty Cathy doll. Wow, was that thing scary! Extra tall and you put a colored plastic record into her side and pulled a cord and she talked. She had a few different records. Just frightening I tell ya.

The Ghost & Mr. Chicken
The Reluctant Astronaut
Any movie w/ Doris Day or James Garner or Rock Hudson (think “The Thrill of It All” or “Roll Over Darling” or “Glass Bottom Boat” or “That Touch of Mink” or “North by Northwest” - etc, etc) oh my, I’m going to have to go searching Netflix/Amazon or any other streaming sight now…I am sooo in the mood!

I also remember exactly where I was when I saw the movie “the Birds” . I was alone!

Also remember throwing my coca cola straight up into the air as I jumped into my moms lap when we watched the episode of “The Twilight Zone” when Bill Shatner opened the airplane curtain and the monster was right at the window!!!

@sax what did the Vac-U-Form toy make? I can’t tell from the eBay listing.

^^There were different dies. My brothers made cars. I see where they had a dragon one. That looked cool.

My dad bought my brothers a pellet gun - it looked like a real rifle except you pumped it so it must have been powered by air. They were allowed to shoot targets only in the backyard. Then they had some friends over and apparently one of their friends shot a bird and my mother got really upset. She loved birds - we had so many beautiful bird houses on our property. We had one huge one on a lantern pole that was alway filled with bird seed.

Anyway, after that my father took the gun away and they never saw it again. Honestly I think he either gave it away or threw it out.

I didn’t have Chatty Cathy but I did have Charmin Chatty. Still have her in a box. Also still have my old Barbie in a case with lots of vintage outfits. I had sons so these things didn’t get played with(although maybe that is not politically correct)? I really played with my Tammy doll the most. I also really liked my xylophone and zither.

I had somehow managed to repress this memory, but something about the Chatty Cathy doll posting brought it all back.

Does anyone remember the “Growing Up Skipper” doll? I think she was supposed to be Barbie’s younger sister or maybe cousin - you would turn her arm and she would grow a bustline? It’s just too upsetting - I can’t even …

Anyone have a Patty Playpal?

Hahahaha^^^^no.( growing up skipper) But that’s scarier than Chatty Cathy!!!

Don’t remember patty play pal.

@sax She was full size and you could strap her on your feet to dance.

Such a fun thread! So glad to know that Lavoris is still available!

I may have missed - anyone else of the age for family vacations by car with AC model 4-60? 4 windows down at 60 MPH?

Mystery Date. Unfortunately , it carried over into real life in my early 20s. I opened the door to the Dud one too many times.

Wow, I was picturing lifesize busty Skipper as the dancer doll. That was creepy!
