Do you still have to request application materials from Colleges?

Hello all,

D has received brochures from all of the colleges she is interested in applying. Does this mean they will automatically send her an application? Should she go to each college’s web site and request an application?

Since all of them probably take the common app, is it even necessary to request the paper applications? I think the college specific supplements will be available later this month for the common app.

Thanks much!!

actually a lot of public universities still do not accept the common app, from my limited experience. But I can’t really answer this well, because I’m struggling with the same problem.

So I’ll give you a bump instead.

D will only be applying to 1 or 2 state schools so we figured she will have to do those applications in addition to the common app. But I believe state schools essay topics may very well be the same as the common app. And that makes it a whole lot easier.

No, it doesn’t mean they will automatically send an application, but they probably will. It’s not necessary to request a common app, for obvious reasons.

To add on to dchow’s response, some schools may have supplemental materials (which is usually found on the Common App) that you have to submit. Some extra supplemental forms, such as athletic/art/music is better requested so it can be sent by mail.
