This year I’ve got the choice of trick -or- treat…a full size candy bar or a light up fidget spinner (bought 50 for $20 at meh). Fidget spinners so far are winning hands down. Teen girls are the only ones likely to take chocolate, but still prefer the fidget spinners overall.
My driveway is about 80 feet long and 40 feet up, so I’ve got to have something to entice them up the hill!
About 60 kids so far, of all ages. Mostly young kids but some teenagers, too, which I don’t mind at all. The costumes were mainly super hero types this year. A lot of the parents with little kids had also dressed up. Several even had their dogs with them, also in costume! Lots of fun!
My daughter who lives in Ottawa just called to wish us a happy Halloween. She had been out earlier with friends who have triplets and they ran into Justin Trudeau and his family out trick-or-treating. He was dressed as Clark Kent.
I’ve had about 50 so far. It’s a little slow, the weather is not helping (drizzling). We usually get over a 100 as we are in a neighborhood that was featured on the news for the best trick or treating!!! I’m noticing parents are driving their kids around. I LOVE halloween & typically make a fun family dinner (tonight tacos) & a few homemade treats (triple chocolate brownies & sugar cookies). For the 1st time, my kids are not trick or treating…I hope they aren’t feeling like they are getting too old! I feel bad and will probably come home with a bunch of discounted candy tomorrow just for them
It’s colder than usual here, so I had more come early than usual. I counted to 108 between 5:30 and 7:10 when I was running low on candy and decided I was tired of getting up and down. Love doing it for a little while, but I confess to losing interest after a bit.
Not as many here as in previous years even though the weather cooperated. The Sour Patch Kids went pretty quickly, though. Too many chocolate candies left over. I think other blocks might have seen more traffic. We did leave our lights on and the door open but ddn’t put up decorations.
I’m ok with teens as long as they’re in costume. Once or twice we had a group of older teen boys who weren’t even in costume and had pillowcases for candy. I said something like, “Oh come on, you guys aren’t even dressed!” That’s just plain rude to trick or treat in street clothes.
Pretty good considering we weren’t supposed to have it today per police chief decision but I guess the moms in town decided to override that decision, at least in our neighborhood. Only downside was it was mostly older kids, which I don’t mind - they are super polite and in costume, but I miss seeing the little ones.
Quickest to go were the KIng Size Milka Oreo Bars, the Caramel Apple Twizzlers, and the bog boxes of Mike and Ikes.
When the kids were young I used to make a big Halloween themed dinner for after trick or treat hours. Just handing out candy is pretty simple now.
What I would give to see Justin Trudeau in a Clark Kent costume…
I didn’t keep count but I’m guessing our typical 150ish…MAYBE heading towards 200?? I had plenty. The big winner…the Swiss Miss Hot Chocolate packets - they ate them up!!! (mental note for next year!)
So far (6:45) not one trick-or-treater. Very surprising since we had 2 or 3 dozen the last couple of years. We didn’t expect the volumes we had in our Chicago suburb, but we also didn’t expect a shut out this year!
For the first time we are leaving the lights out and watching the World Series. Only one house on our street has lights on. A few streets over there is a big haunted house and all the kids are going around there.
We got about 100 kids. My husband went nuts. Outdoor music from Pandora. All the lights and decorations. He is answering the door in a mad doctor’s costume with a missing hand. The missing hand is a motion detecting animated hand in the candy bowl. I yelled at him not to terrorize the under fives.
I was out but husband gave out about 40 bags of candy.
My mom said she told off a couple of people in her neighborhood- mostly moms with kids under a year old “who is really wanting this candy?” That’s my mother!
