Do you take fish oil supplements?

Been taking supplements for about a month now. Jarrow Formulas - 2 softgels daily = 840 mg of EPA and 420 mg of DHA.

Having trouble with fishy burps. Boy o’ boy, are they n-a-s-t-y. Seems to be a common problem, but I haven’t found a common solution. Some solutions offered were enteric coated capsules, freezing capsules or taking capsules with meals. Unfortunately, if I left them in the freezer I know I’d forget to take them. And forget about “burpless” capsules, many say that they are a myth.

Anyone have a brand they have tried that didn’t have this rather unpleasant side effect?

Sorry, I can’t help. I have no problems with any of them (and take rather more than you - about double.)

My wife used to burp with the ones from Costco, but has switched to VitaminShoppe - 3 in the morning, 3 in the evening - and no problem.

I once washed my sons pants that had three fish oil caps in them and then ran the load through the dryer. I ended up having to throw the entire load of clothes away…

I take Nature’s Bounty odorless Omega 3 & 6 Fish Oil and haven’t had a problem with fish burps.

I use Nordic Naturals and no fishy burps either.

I take the Costco omega capsules. But I doubt any of this sort of nutriceutical makes any difference in my health, longevity, etc. I’m sure I’d be much better off eating less crap (processed carbohydrates) and eating more veggies.

The only available evidence is for “Lovaza” (FDA-approved fish oil) as a way of reducing triglycerides over 500 mg/dl. (To get the Lovaza dose from Costco capsules, by the way, requires 10 per day.) It is hypothesized but unproven that fish oil will reduce HDLs, and, if you believe the lipid hypothesis, reduce heart incident mortality.

I take 'em. Of course, they might have more effect if I actually believed in them.

A nutritionist I know also recommended Nordic Naturals sold at Whole Foods – they’re lemon flavored, so no nasty taste.

Nope, I just eat a fair amount of fish.

My S takes the ones from the Vitamin Shoppe and I have heard no complaints (or burps, lol)

Some fish oil products have undesirable impurities. I would recommend going with a brand that is neutraceutical grade. Life Extension brand has some, and other brands as well.

No, but I dip into my music collection and take a Phish supplement fairly frequently.

The Environmental Defense Fund has a list of companies that properly purify their fish oil supplements.

My dog is allergic to salmon oil so my vet suggested flax seed oil, which is almost as rich in omega-3’s. I switched over myself when I realized I liked the scent of the flax seed oil.

Try FISOL.
H. and I take it and haven’t had any problems with fishy burps. It was recommended by a friend for just that reason.
I also read that capsules derived from krill may have even stronger benefits than the regular fish oil ones.

I take my fish oil supplements in the form of a filet, blackened, with tartar sauce, lettuce, tomato and a fine bun.

No burps. ;)

I take fish oil capsules from omegabrite.com. No taste, aftertaste, or burps.

I consider them magic. I had a problem with my shoulder for 10 months. It was painful, especially in the morning, and I could not raise my arm above horizontal. I was about to go to a doctor about it, because it was not getting better. I started taking these capsules for general health purposes. About a month later I noticed that my shoulder did not hurt any more. My range of motion is now 99.9% normal.

Flax seeds here;_)

Nordic Naturals were the brand Dr. Andrew Weil suggested for use on his web site (and on a TV program I caught) because they test for mercury and don’t have the “burps” like many.

They also helped a family member with depression and mild ADD…was skeptical, but did notice a difference with my own son, but it took about 4-6 weeks.

My daughter uses it for mild ADD and attention issues along with a good vitamin, and some diet changes…I noticed a difference although it’s not dramatic like with adderal or a drug like that…you also don’t have the side effects either, so not a bad thing to look into first, if it isn’t a bad case. It seems to help so many things in general.
