Do you take resveratrol (ingredient in red wine)?

There is so much hype about the healthful effects of red wine but research shows that it is beneficial for the heart, but it increases your chances of cancer. Apparently the healthful ingredient in red wine comes from the skin of grapes called resveratrol and it can be taken in supplement pill form.

Do you take it? Why, how much do you take, and which brand?

No, and I never will. Resveratrol can be a huge migraine trigger. In me, I can’t have any grapes or wine because of getting 2 day long migraines from a tiny amount.

My husband doesn’t have migraines and takes a glass of red wine each night. I don’t know if he has tracked any change in his cholesterol.

The link above has an easy to read pros and cons discussion.

I’ve been taking Jarrow Formula Resveratrol 100 for almost 2 months. My sister takes it and she’s convinced that she feels more energetic and younger. I’m nearly finished with the bottle and I cannot detect any change at all, nor have I experienced any adverse side effects. I don’t think I’ll continue after I finish the bottle, unless I hear more scientific evidence that it is beneficial.

I tried it several times, and got headaches, so no thanks. Now that I see your post, twomules, it makes sense.

It’s too bad. Still looking for that fountain of youth . . .

I find its better mixed with dihydrogen oxide (about 88%) and ethanol (about 12%).

Seriously though, are any of you, woman in particular, worried about alcohol increasing your chances of cancer?

bump up to keep going

yes and no. Because I was diagnosed with breast cancer 4 years ago to the day, I know I need to be careful. But then my mother had two breasts removed and died of congestive heart failure at 98 and drank two glasses of wine daily, lived life to the full and never worried about dying. If something went wrong, she let the docs do their work and relaxed or so she said. Not that she wanted to die when she did. She definitely didn’t. But the older you get the more can go wrong. Back to the yes and no. I drink carefully. One a day, is good. Three a week is better.

If you listen to too much you will go nuts because every day you are told something else is not healthy!
