Do you think I’m going to fit in at Rice University? I’m not exactly “conservative” or “liberal”. I’m really shy with people I don’t know and I kind of don’t like expressing my opinions about most things. And I’m not going to live on campus:( (our house is 2 minutes away from Rice so I decided to live off campus because 1. my mom has MS and I’m her main caregiver and 2. we don’t have to pay for room and board.) So what do you think? (please don’t be rude:))

You sound like a very caring person, Mehr93. From what I hear, students are very accepting and supportive of each other at Rice. Be yourself, and enjoy all that Rice has to offer –

Also, since you’ll only be two minutes from campus, it will be easy to be on and off campus as needed. There’ll be time to help your family, and time for classes, and for enjoying your residential college, clubs, concerts, new friendships…

Please do try to be oncampus for o-week. You should be fine!

You’ll probably find a nice group of friends who will want to come visit you and your mom and get a little taste of home too- a real living room, food that comes out of a regular kitchen, doors that open with a keyswipe.

Sounds just lovely, BrooklyninOh – hard to say who will be luckier!

I truly believe anybody can fit in at Rice.

I agree with BlizzaP, you will fit in great. Obviously, living off campus your freshman year will require some more effort on your part to get to know people and make firm friends, but there are friends for everyone.

If you are around enough to find a good group, you will fit in perfectly.

Being shy and mostly off campus, you will probably have a hard time finding really good friends at first. Will you fit in? Hard to say… on you, whoever you surround yourself, and other things. Can you fit in? Definitely.

Thank you guys:) Now I know I will! I’m super excited about attending Rice:)
