SGA is known for acting as the university liaison between the faculty and students.

Do you think being a secretary, treasurer, VP, or President still matters after graduation?
What about a regular club officer (biology club president, book club VP, captain of soccer team, etc.)?

I ask because I’m currently in SGA not because of employment purposes but because I genuinely enjoy it, but if it does help in employment prospects, then that’s always a plus lol.

Our Student Union treasurer is in charge of a $2.5+ million budget. I’d say that looks pretty damn good on a resume (I ran a >$10k event last semester, and it was that position that got me my internship, so yeah, these things matter in getting jobs).

Mind you, this generally only matters for your /first/ job. Once you have one, the biggest thing is your performance in said job.

I can see having a “leadership” position like P or VP being useful if you are majoring in political science or something. But my opinion on the subject is it’s like admissions essays…everyone thinks they matter even though it always came down to GPA/SAT. In other words, it might be a tipping point but it won’t be a wow factor.

My school’s government has over a 30 million dollar budget and is one of the most powerful in the nation, so being the president would be a pretty good feat.

I’ve had a corrupt SGA whose leaders promote themselves to everyone, including tours.
And they ran uncontested.
Probably different in other places. I’ve heard some are pretty good.

I’d say it matters if you have a job that involves similar business. Other than that, it just means you were involved in college. Not a bad thing!
