Do you think?

Do you think we’ll ever have a shoe that can actually increase your speed?

are you that bored?

I don’t think.

It would be cool though.

“can actually increase your speed”

I would say we already have that. The shoes worn by runners today are made for running (i.e., design of soles, etc.); I imagine that would increase a person’s speed.

I don’t know if those shoes nowadays actually increase your speed. I guess they do in the long run because they definently help with proper cushioning, etc.

If these [future?] shoes went too fast for you though, you’d probably seriously injure yourself unless you could keep up… One time I was jump roping, and I had this adrenaline rush, and my feet were really moving too fast and I sprained my ankle. I was barefoot though.

Never gonna happen. The reason people are fast are because of fibers in their legs and the amount of force they can exert into the ground. Look at the Kenyan marathoners - they don’t even wear shoes. Shoes don’t do anything to help.

Thanks Ecliptica for the explanation. Kenyans also eat nothing but starches like potatoes so they always have this great amount of energy.

Plus Kenyans are like 9500 feet above sea level and race around 500 feet above sea level, that doesn’t hurt the situtation at all. I do think shoes make you faster. If you cloned Jeremy Warnier and put him in a race against himself, were one person was wearing shoes and the other wasn’t wearing shoes, the clone with the shoes would win every time.

Shoes protect you from the rough terrain, but Kenyans probably already adapted to the rough terrain.

shoes cant make YOU faster. they may give you faster times, but you yourself have not gotten any faster. practicing in one kind of shoe as compared to practicing in a different yielding different times may show that one shoe makes you faster, but just because you can run faster in a pair of shoes doesnt mean that they made you any faster. you always had that potential to go that speed, the shoes just allow you to reach that potential better than your barefeet do. they do nothing to increase that potential. at least thats how i feel about it.

“Shoes protect you from the rough terrain”

they also absorb shock and keep you from ruining your legs.
