Do you use coupons?

happymom-
All I’ve been getting from the CVS emails are coupons for their on line store, which I do not use. You are getting in store emails? Lately? I used to, but not in a while, and do not use the CVS.com coupons. Frustrating.

We used to use coupons a lot but I’ve noticed two major changes over the last few years that make them a lot less useful:

1 - shorter expiration time frames. They used to be good for several months; now maybe only a month or two. So I don’t bother clipping them unless I know I want to get the product in the near future.

2 - multiple purchase required, either the same product or combination, when it used to be money off just one item.

One of our grocery stores lets you load coupons etc. onto your loyalty card online so you don’t need to clip anything. That includes personalized deals, newspaper type coupons, and advertised deals from the other grocery chain, Target. and Walmart. It’s nice because they regularly have gallons of milk for $1.79 and bananas for $.38.

I do use my 30% Kohls coupons, even if I don’t need anything!

Out of habit I still look at the Sunday coupon circular, however, I rarely rip one out and when I do, there’s a 95% chance I won’t use it, so I’m trying to wean myself from wasting the time.

I do, however, still look at the Target, CVS & ShopRite (local supermarket) circulars for sales. This time of year, I like the Staples ad for school supplies, but with S1 now a HS sophomore, they need for pencils & crayons has diminished!

Agree the BBBY (sorry, their stock ticker, which is how I refer to it!) 20% coupon is a keeper.

I have noticed Costco is moving to clipless coupon in recent months.

I HATE coupons. Nevertheless, I keep a supply of BB&B coupons in my car. I’ll be damned if I’m going to pay 20% more than everyone else in the line whenever I go in there.

Speaking of coupons, Office Max and Staples have started their $.01 and .25 sales already. Though I am not even sure what kid of notebooks to buy this time. I will go stock up on pens, highlighters and notecards, though.

Yes- despite being able to afford regular prices I can’t get over my middle class upbringing (also look for sales). I no longer save 25 cent ones, though. And only for products I would buy anyhow. We also bother to fill out rebate forms.

Re CVS Coupons:

The emails I get give me the option of using the coupon in the store or online. I haven’t noticed any that were exclusively for online purchases. I’ll have to pay attention to that.

I will use electronic coupons like mPerks (Meijer) but I don’t get a paper or anything so no…

I love Groupon type deals though. Use those all the time. My group of friends will often plan outings based on what Groupon deals are on lol.

We use fewer and fewer, and have never really used them for groceries.

However, I have yet to pay more than $1 for toothpaste, shampoo, body wash. It’s great for toiletries.

Also use BBB.

I’m always amazed at the extreme couponers that think they are feeding their families on flavored vitamin water and cookies.

Those extreme coupon people amaze me in a lot of ways. The items I buy with coupons seem to go on sale with some regularity…mostly toiletries, first aid items, and laundry soap. I am “stocking up” a bit right now, mostly because I want to send some spares with D to college. But I can’t imagine having a room full of “stuff”. It’s got to expire at some point. What do you do with that many snacks and beverages?

Staples: I buy their .25 sale on reams of paper (you buy at $6.99 and then get $6.74 rebate in mail; limit 2). My neighbor, a principal of a low income school, loves me lots for getting many of the neighbors to buy also. I do try and stock up on Staples many sale items for the schools. Just can’t break the habit of shopping for school supplies–have a college Jr.!
