Do You Watch The Debates???

Any food or flavor of ice cream I like disappears forever from the shelves rapidly too :frowning:

A couple of years ago, I googled shampoo/conditioner reviews and found amazing products from Pantene. Sure enough, they were bought out and discontinued them. When I heard the news, I went online and bought a BUNCH. I will be set for a few years.

I have no need to watch any of the debates. My mind is already made up.

I played tennis last night. Much better for my mental health than watching the debates.

Tried watching yesterday, but got bored quickly. Too many sound bites and no substance. Atlantic had several podcasts, long interviews with several less popular candidates, these were much more interesting.

The one I like won’t win. I’ve liked this person from the beginning. Very pragmatic. But they aren’t pushy and a couple other reasons.

All these posts have me wondering and guessing who are everyone’s favorites!

No. Prefer to read the summaries preferably from multiple sources. There are too many candidates with too little time for substance. I wish the League of Women Voters would provide a list of platform questions, and they simply outlined their answers. The venues also seem too much like a “game show” to me, even reinforced by the stage sets.

@doschicos me, too. lol Though I imagine many are like me and haven’t settled on anyone but use the debates to read the temperature of the room. There are some I definitely like more than others, some who I think are more electable than others, etc, but I still have an open mind.

I worked out at the gym and then watched the rap-up/review of the candidate’s performances. Looks like there were a bit more fireworks than usual. Now, if the lowest polling candidates post debate will get out of the race and we can move on to the next round.

By the time the CA primary comes around in March, there may only be 2 or 3 candidates left in the race. So, listening to a bunch of people who won’t be in the race is tedious.

MODERATOR’S NOTE:

Being a rhetorical question, of course.

I watched a little (there was baseball on!) and was surprised at who was still in the race. There are candidates I haven’t seen or heard about in weeks! I was kind of surprised they were still in the race.

I find myself watching the candidates and thinking “hmm…I don’t think this person is who I’d vote for the top spot but he/she would make a good ___________ (fill in secretary of education, housing, whatever)” .

I"m a political junkie, so I enjoy the debates. I do like to see how the candidates respond to questions and how they respond to one another.

Since many Americans have no interest in political issues and aren’t likely vote (only 55% of eligible voters participated in the last presidential election—which is typical), I don’t think the debates are irrelevant to many folks.

No. Way too soon and too many candidates. Dislike politoics in general and force myself to keep in touch with things. Prefer to scan the summaries instead of spending the time listening as well. When the field narrows will be the time to pay attention to individuals. Wish more candidates would drop out soon.

I’ve been watching the debates mainly under the concept of “watch what they do, not what they say”. Campaign promises always need adjustment under reality, so I take everything with a grain of salt. But I like seeing how the candidates react during the debate. Do they take the bait on questions designed to stir controversy? Do they attack another candidate for non essential matters? Are they courteous? Are they too courteous? Are they causing more damage to their party than their competitors? Do they stumble when challenged? Are they too defensive? Do they answer the question instead of veering to their talking points? Do they waste time then run out of time for their main point?

Like @abasket , I’ve been picking out a few cabinet members.

I have adjusted my opinion on some candidates over the course of the debates. My favorite is showing well. But I’m always considering how each of them would hold up in debates during the election rather than the primary. I consider that an essential strength. (Assuming there will even be such debates, which I guess is a big maybe - not the certainty like in the past.)

Not even a question!

I watched baseball while reading the running commentary about the debate on a newspaper website. Worked pretty well.

I have to laugh at all the people watching baseball. THAT would be MY puratory! Much rather watch the debates!

Thanks for keeping this thread “legal” for nearly 80 posts. It’s interesting to hear people’s prospectives. Raise a glass to hoping we get a little smaller group, a little wider point of view and depth next debate!

It is entertaining to watch them duck the question and instead manage to bring up their talking points.
