Death threats aren’t that uncommon. I think I am generally well-liked by my patients, but one patient threatened to shoot me and his orthopedist a few years ago. Other colleagues of mine have been threatened as well.
I can usually sense the people that are most likely to become unhinged - the ones that don’t think rationally are the ones that unnerve me most, especially when they don’t get the hydrocodone or Xanax prescription they wanted.

My son-in-law is a resident at Brigham and he was in the building that was put on lockdown. Scary, since initially they didn’t know the shooter had killed himself. But once lockdown was lifted they all went back to work.
On Friday though there were no scheduled cardiac surgeries so that all the surgeons could attend the funeral. Plus the service was on close-captioned tv at the hospital.
Such. a tragedy
