Quite tragic. It has a lot of medical personnel on edge, not surprisingly. It’s a sad commentary that we’ve not seen more such incidents. I recall the fellow in the Midwest who had repeatedly lost hearings in his lawsuit against health providers or his insurance company. He fatally shot two members of a federal judge’s family. At least many court houses today have metal detectors. I have never seen one at a hospital.
How horrible and so crazy. Now this doctor’s family has lost a father/husband…and now this shooter’s family will essentially lose him to the prison system.

This is the second time in the last few years that my daughter’s training hospitals have been involved in a shooting. First one was at Mass Eye and Ear where an inmate grabbed the gun of a prison guard…then this. Luckily, neither time was my daughter present …and to think , I cried when she brought up the idea of working for the government ( i.e army ) to pay off her student loans upon graduating as a NP

Oh wow…I didn’t know that. Ok…so the shooter’s family lost him permanently too.
I’m not a mental health expert, but this screams mentally ill to me.
The Brigham is huge. There’s no way to set up metal detectors and guards at the dozens of ways in. And there’s so much traffic in and out - like many thousands a day - doing that would impact care, cause huge delays, etc.
Dr. Davidson’s wife is in her 3rd trimester with their 4th child. She’s also a doctor.
The bleeping jerk who did this left a family who have to live with what he did.
Anyone read the book ‘The Gift of Fear’? It is excellent. In it the author talks about signs of problems and how to recognize them. A must read for parents raising kids. He does not belief that things just happen, he looks for signs missed everywhere. Not saying that this is the case here. It just reminded me of the book.
This doctor went through my unit in his training. Everyone liked him, and my friends mom had him and he was excellent. everyone in the community is sick about this. All the hospitals are in close proximity in the Longwood area
. I am pretty mad right now.
He was Yale/Harvard trained too. What a horrible waste.
The psychologist shot in TX by a former employee was a friend of mine. He left private practice after 9/11 to hep those serving our country. Another waste. So sad.

It sounds like the sister is acting like she has “no idea”, but likely those who have lived in his home for the past 10+ years will know that he exhibited irrational rage at times. Was the guy married?

I used to work at the Brigham/Beth Israel, so I’ve been reading all the comments on the physician’s FB page. He sounds like an incredible man and surgeon, and very giving of his time to patients and staff. Such a loss.

Unfortunately, he was allowed to buy a handgun in 2011.
Well, I hope that his wife will be brave enough to reveal how he really was. The neighbor reporting that he was a nice guy who walked his dog is just meaningless info. More likely, he was an unstable person, maybe had an addiction issue, depression, anger issues, etc.
Ah in that case, he sounds like the perfect candidate to have a gun.

Of course. Background checks don’t ever seem to catch this kind of guy, do they?
I don’t think that anything in his background would obviously disqualify him from owning a gun according to existing standards. It’s just that it wasn’t as rosy as initially portrayed.
To me, the question is why this guy, and millions of others, feel that they NEED a gun, when by any rational standard they clearly do not.

Money issues aren’t used to determine whether someone can get a gun.
this guy was not mentally healthy…unless his wife stays quiet, I’m betting that we’re going to hear that there were some red flags.
