We don’t need to argue this. It is not important. You don’t need to believe it.
We earn and save money to give our children opportunity to study what interests them and pursue work which gives them purpose and happiness.
We were full pay when my daughter attended an Ivy few years ago. And no, she didn’t have 100k as a starting salary. She probably is making that much now though. And no, we don’t expect anything in return. It’s our gift to her. I grew up poor in a third world country so we instilled in her the importance of education
Of course MD/DO seats are limited, and further limited by the number of residencies, which were kept historically low. (I don’t know the details but I’m sure @WayOutWestMom does.)
FWIW, my daughter worked as a minimum-wage patient care technician for two years after she graduated from college. Now she’s a DO resident in family practice. Her husband is a pilot for a major airline and they live in a relatively low cost-of-living city in NYS, about 90 minutes by car from NYC.
