documenting need for computer accomodation in college

My son needs a computer to type his test response questions. How do I document this need for the local community college for a summer class?

Talk to the school’s disabled student services department and see what the procedure is.

Usually, all they need is a copy of the HS documentation.

Does your son have a current 504 accommodation plan in high school…or an IEP that specifies these accommodation? And in addition, is there current (within the last couple of years) assessment and verification data that supports the need for this? I believe if you have these, your son should contact the disabilities office at the school. If he is over 18, they will only talk to you about this if he gives you permission to do so.

If you do not currently have this accommodation in an official manner (via a 504 or IEP), it MAY be more difficult to get it into place for college.

But you and your son can talk to the disability office at the college now…ASAP because if there is anything your high school needs to provide for documentation , you want to make sure you have time to get it from the high school.
