My sister is 6 years younger than me and not athletic at all. She doesn’t think we had dodgeball past elementary school and said it was never a problem, the balls were soft, and there was never any bullying. She said you could only throw it low. I’m sorry this was a problem for some people, but I don’t think it is pervasive.
Had to laugh today while reading a novel. The narrator’s older brother is the captain of the high school basketball team, but has decided that the day of the “big game” with the crosstown rival is a good one to take off on his own, not to be seen again by his sister for 10 years. They lose the game, and the townspeople, lacking any way to take their disappointment out on her brother, direct their anger at her the next day.
