Does a 15/190 class rank kill my chances at BC and Notre Dame?

<p>I got to a public school in Connecticut. I know there are numerous factors involved but I am very afraid that this class rank is going to hurt real bad. However, I feel my saving grace are my SAT scores because I am right in the median for both of them (680, 690, 700). Basically, what is going to count more to an admissions officer?</p>

to telll you the truth you can’t get into Notre Dame unless your vallie, even sallies usually get rejected…i’m sorry i think you should just apply to your community college… or jump off a bridge…</p>

<p>I just learned today from my counselor that everyone who has above a 4.0 is ranked number one. I would be tied for 1/160 with one other person if true gpa were counted but with our system I am tied with 5 others. I know it’s not shabby, but can I count that as my high school not ranking students? The best part is that everyone with over a 4.0 gets to be valedictorian as well.</p>

<p>No. I was 7/150 and got into Stanford way back when. And my SATs weren’t tippy top either… as I recall 96th% verbal, 99th% math… was a long time ago.</p>

<p>In my opinion, the position of valedictorian becomes meaningless when you have more than one or two.</p>

<p>I agree that valedictorianship loses its meaning when there are too many. Certainly, though, if I were to report that I am tied with five people, colleges would assume that those people all have the same gpa which would also diminish the reputation of my high school. I have taken five more AP classes than most of the people I am tied with. As a rural student, I am tasked with showing that I am comparably educated with everyone else. Surely the answer to the question of my rank that my counselor gives them is not what they really mean. I guess I will ask her and see if she note the system on my transcript, or something.</p>
