Hey I just got back my AP score from my freshman year in Human Geography. I got an A in the class but only a 4 on the exam. Normally I wouldn’t worry about a 4 but everyone says Human Geo. is a joke AP. Now here is the problem, I reported that score to Vanderbilt (where I want to go) hoping I would get a 5 and seeing that I have interest in their school from a young age, before I started visiting colleges. Will Vanderbilt count this against me when I apply in the future? Or will they see it as a solid effort and commend my interest? Or not care at all? Or somewhere in between? Thanks!

I’m not sure how you reported the score to Vandy. Regardless, a 4 is a good score.

At the end of the day, AP scores count for very little, if anything, in the admissions decision. Given that Vanderbilt does not give credit for this exam, your score will have zero impact on the admissions decision.

AP scores can be reported to the registrar, but are not sent to the admissions office so it won’t impact your application.

You can self-report AP scores in the application if you choose. I have no idea if a 4 on human geo would reflect poorly. My guess is that it would be neutral.

It is one score based on which no school admits you. However, you create a profile based on many such indicators (SAT, SAT II, ACT, AP, IB). So your future performance in all these areas will have a lot to do than a single AP exam score.

AP scores are not required at most schools for an admission. So I would recommend people do not designate any college outside of your State schools to receive them when they take the test.
