Does a High SAT offset a low GPA?

If I have a low gpa (3.7 uw out of 4.0) but get a high SAT score (2300+), does the SAT make up for the low gpa?

Not really. It’s expected you’ll have a high SAT and a high GPA.

It all depends on your classwork load and context to other students. If you’ve aggressively taken loads of AP classes and your school is known for having competitive and difficult classes then college admissions officers will take that into account. Also what is your class rank with that GPA?

It’s based on each situation. I had a below average GPA but above average ACT, and I got in. The reason being: I had an excessively rigorous courseload with loads of ECs, great essays and recs, etc.

They’re not looking for the most perfect student in terms of intelligence, they’re looking for the best fit - and that is someone who is well rounded in all walks of life.

In general, yes. A high SAT score can offset a moderate GPA, so long as you’re otherwise an attractive applicant. If you have good letters of recommendation, ECs, and essays, then you can definitely get in with e 3.7 UW GPA and a 2300+ SAT.

Not sure I can remember that well, since it was 4(!) years ago, but I believe I had a UW GPA around 3.67 and an SATI score of 2310 (800W, 800R, 710M), along with some 5 APs and 700+ SATIIs, and I got in, mostly due to my essays and letters of rec.
