Does a Major choice matter in getting in?

I’ve been trying to get into my top school all of my senior year, with early, which i was deferred, and with regular, which I am now waitlisted.
I would say im on the upper side of the 50%tile, 2110 SAT, 3.7 GPA, okay recs and other stuff.
A packed course load, im in the IB program: IB physics sl, IB latin hl, IB math hl, IB english hl,
and I also am taking the Distance Learning Calculus 3 that they setup.
The thing is when I applied, I was really into their Biomedical major, so I marked it just as that on the application. I know its really selective to get into their program, but was this a major factor in not getting in? Do they consider you for other programs, besides the ones you checked on your application?

anyways thanks, just waiting it out, and if i dont get in, am considering transferring later down the road.

The school is Georgia Tech.

Im thinking about calling them and asking them myself,
I would be glad to get into any program that they offer

It depends on the university; it is more likely with public universities. But call the specific university and ask.
