As the title states: does a philosophy major help you argue more efficiently?

You shouldn’t want to argue better. Arguing gets you nowhere. I’m not being a pretentious A-Hole, I really mean that.

Perhaps you mean, “Does Philosophy help you debate more efficiently”, or “Does philosophy help you discuss issues more effectively.”

In the very broadest sense - yes, it could potentially.

It gives you a good base of fundamental logic that could possibly aid you while debating…hypothetically.

In my last job, I had lots of training in interviews and interrogation methods (look up Reid Interview and Interrogation Techniques - great stuff), and I learned what REALLY makes a person a good debater.

The best debaters are people who 1) Have a firm grasp on the subject, and 2) Can respond flexibly to changes in the discussion.

What’s your goal if you’re majoring in philosophy? I would think its law school judging by your question.

no, it’s just that i love debating, mostly politics, but other things as well.

Well, keep working at it and some day you will become a master debater.

In that case, I would minor in philosophy in your situation.
