Does acceptance into an ROTC unit boost chances of admissions at schools?

I’m applying for NROTC Marine Option and was wondering if being accepted into an NROTC unit means they will push for your admission into that school if it is more challenging. My first choice school for this scholarship is UCLA for meche, and as you all know it’s very tough to get into this particular major, so I was wondering if this will affect my chances if I am one of the few (and the proud!) to obtain this scholarship.

Instead, maximize your dress credentials for admissions. Unless a school has a military bent, rotc may not be a hook. How would campus rotc know about your application or be overtly supportive of your admission?

IMHO, if you are awarded a ROTC scholarship from Cadet Command, it helps your admission chances at the university.

This is probably more likely at private colleges where tuition discounting and grants from the college are routinely given. In essence, the ROTC scholarship just made the student a full pay student and most colleges are not need blind.

If you get the aforementioned scholarship and designate UCLA as your first choice school when asked to list your preferences for the scholarship, your chances of admission at the school can most definitely be boosted. However, this may be dependent on who you’re in contact with from the school and how many students they’re allowed to recommend to admissions.

As an aside, there has been speculation regarding an admissions boost even without the scholarship, as (if I remember correctly) every school I applied to asked the applicant to indicate whether or not they were planning on joining ROTC.

Alright, thanks folks! I know NROTC MO holds weight at private colleges, I just wondered if it would be the same case for public.

I don’t have experience with UCLA, but ROTC did hold weight at East Coast schools my son applied to.

The ROOs are quite honest in our experience. Certainly contact the ROO. There is also a different website similar to this board that fields questions for ROTC and military service academies that you should check out.
