Does an interview help?

I’m going to be a junior this year and my dad is really ragging on me and pushing me to start planning for college. So far,I’m interested in University of Texas Austin. This may be a stupid question, but I don’t have any friends who went to college so I can’t ask, most either didn’t go to college or well…didn’t go to college.
I’ve heard of interviews, what exactly are they?
Who do you(applicant) interview with?
And will an interview help an applicants chance of getting in?(for UT Austin)
I do live in Texas, unfortunately I do not live in or around Austin, but I would be willing to go to great lengths to be accepted

Sometimes it does. Depends on your application. What’s your courseload and GPA? You can interview with an alumnus or a volunteer interviewer. Some people I know have had interviews with the department in their major or a coach.

I am an AP honors student,I have 1 IB class my Junior and Senior year, the rest AP or fine arts, which I’m really into.I’m in band,a clarinet player.I am not sure about my GPA,I’ll log onto gradebook and see if it’s still up.I’ve heard UT Austin looks at rank and not GPA,which,my school is an IB school so it’s…hard, especially considering I’m not an IB student

Work really hard Junior year to get your rank up. When you apply to a college it is your end of junior year GPA/rank that gets sent with your fall applications. And yes, rank is the most important ting on a UT application.
