Does Andover fancy mathematic and scientific whizzes

Will all the mathematic and scientific whizzes in the Andover applicant pool be admitted

No. Neither Andover not any other school wants a class with solely “mathematic and scientific whizzes.”

Mathematic whizz=a person who has won the national Olympiad math comp for a few times
Scientific whizz=a person who has been the champion of the national science comp

What are the odds for those whizzes if so?

See reply #1.

Tbh I could stand a great chance of representing China in the IMO, if Andover rejected/waitlisted me (I am literally perceiving the possible results in a sanguine manner) , regardless of that I did not join any comp these 2 years(simply becuz the cost is quite high if I do not receive sponsorship from org)
But if I did receive an acceptance letter from Andover, I would definitely contribute much to the math club there and utilise the opportunities given to follow my dreams with passions.

You’ll have a better chance at Exeter than Andover. Exeter places greater emphasis on and is much more active in IMO type of competitions.

BTW, US team placed first in three of the last four IMOs and majority of the team members are ethnic Chinese.

Im blissful to hear that, alas, the heinous reality is, i don’t think I will enter that aristocratic school as a financial aid applicant(it isn’t need blind!)

I mean, I ain’t a legacy student(1 antihook), I need nearly full financial aid(1 antihook)(my parents are not such affluent and they won’t be willing to pay that price), I am a Chinese (1 antihook) international applicant(1 antihook)

You shouldn’t make assumptions about Exeter. They like a well rounded student population. You don’t know how you fit compared with the rest of the applicants. You might be just what they’re looking for in that year. They offer very generous financial aid to international students every year. I have personal experience with that. Exeter is a fantastic school! They’re are many other great BS in the New England area. Good luck!

Also, I agree with the sentiments above that none of these schools want to fill their ranks with kids who profile the same way. Part of the point is to build a class with a diverse and rich set of interests and experiences to share with one another.

My nation is not equivalent to your nation, smh

Would they fork over 50000 usd just for a single person? Def not. Like other BS, they allege that they provide “generous” financial aid, but do they? No.

Actually, they do.

You might want to research any schools you want to apply to before you interview. A major gaffe like this in an interview will not help you.

They “most def” do. If you come to this forum with questions rather than answers, you’d be surprised how much you could learn.

You are replaying France in 1800s.(1st, 2nd, 3rd estate). I can accord kids 1cent and state that I provide scholarships for those in need eloquently on a website… And tbh, the mathematics that us students learn is ez(just being urbane), i don’t reckon that I can gain something in terms of math in a mediocre school on that piece of ”democratic” land. And applying to other schools is a waste of cash.

A simple search would show you this about PA’s financial aid:

PA meets 100% of demonstrated need, and with grants, not loans
47% of students at PA receive financial aid.
13% receive full scholarships
The average grant for returning students is $40,800.

And for PE:

50% of students receive financial aid.
Families with incomes less than $75/yr. pay nothing.
The school awards 22 million dollars each year in grants.

@NoJumpJustHum It’s hard to make sense of your posts but I’ll state a few facts that may be relevant:

  1. There is no math that you can learn at Andover but not at Exeter
  2. Exeter awards full aid to applicants they want just as Andover does.
  3. Exeter is as far from "aristocratic" as a BS can get, having the largest proportion of public school students
  4. Exceptional math students in "mediocre" schools can do independent study in collaboration with top colleges
  5. No math whiz stands a chance of admission to E/A or any other U.S. BS while being arrogant. U.S. schools like to give their $$ to kids who can be part of a community. It's a culture you need to get used to if you want to pursue an education here.

And why do you want to study in the US to begin with? You seem perfectly situated where you are and can bloom where you are planted.

And vice versa

  1. more resources perhaps?
  2. MIT (won’t mention this in app)
  3. intellectually diverse
Btw, how to reply to the question ”what can you contribute”
