Does any other university offer this?

I’m currently writing my “Why Yale?” portion of the application and one of the key things for me is that though it is a research-based institution, it also has a large focus on the arts. Now, is there any other institution that offers this?

In a word, yes.

I suppose I deserve such an answer, being very vague with my question. Would you happen to know which universities offer this?

Most top 20 colleges are researched-based and offer opportunities to those interested in the arts. You might want to be more specific when you talk about Yale being a research university and liberal arts college.

Yeah, they make it a tad difficult with their 500 character limit. I’m trying to fit in three topics: residential colleges, arts/research, student body.

I don’t know if you can talk about residential colleges, arts/research, and student body with specificity if you only have 500 characters to spare. I would pick my favorite thing out of your 3 listed, and be specific with it. You don’t want to be general with your “Why Yale?” essay or else it will sound like most of the essays they get. I think 500 characters allows you to do a 150 word essay take or add few words, so being specific is the key.

grizzman, would you mind quickly reading what I have?

Sorry for the delay. I will be glad help you, just PM what you have to me.

I mean…most of the Why Yale essays are inevitably going to be similar. Yale has certain characteristics that make students want to apply to it, so these are going to come up time and time again in the essays. I don’t see any problem with your idea. To make it stand out more though, it would be best to talk about your personal experiences or interests and connect that to the topic rather than just leaving it as “I like Yale because it has this, this, and this.”
