Does Anybody Feel Like They Are Falling Apart ?

Hi all-I had surgery in March for some routine repairs after having 4 kids, and now think I have either an ulcer or gallbladder problem. Having a scope on Wed. I am almost 59, about 40 pounds overweight , but I exercised 3-4 times a week until recently . I eat mostly a plant based diet, and lots of organic salad greens ,little meat . I am upset at the prospect of another possible surgery in less than 1 year! Am I unusual in that I feel like I am starting to fall apart before 60?

I’m no help since I’ve already fallen apart. :D

Welcome to CC ! I am pleased to have inspired you to post! Are you in my age group?

You are preaching to the choir! I’m younger than you, I’ve had to be taken to the emergency room, or otherwise be seen by emergency personnel four times this year- so far… For completely unrelated things, and this is extremely unusual, I don’t think I have ever gone to the emergency room before ( except a couple years ago when I got a concussion.
)
I’m also looking at a complete knee replacement in the immediate future. :stuck_out_tongue: ( I’m not overweight, but I am double jointed, and until a few years ago had a very physical job- which I still try and keep my hand in with)
Otherwise, I think I’m in fairly good shape!

I hope you feel better soon! I know what you mean, though. I tore my meniscus in December (coincidentally the same month I turned 50!) and I’ve been a wreck since. I had surgery, but my knee hasn’t been right since and it’s really been quite miserable for me. I wake up several times each night due to the pain, DH and I don’t walk like we once did because I limp and it’s painful, and I’ve packed on every bit of weight that I had once lost. I’m so stinkin’ frustrated.

I wonder if I weren’t (?)overweight if I wouldn’t be having these problems. My H thinks my weight is the problem.

About your same “stats,” OP, and I’ve had 2 hip replacements in the past 2 years. Not sure if that qualifies as falling apart, but it has occurred to me that I’m no longer young.

Ask the doctor. The doc knows a lot more about it than your H most likely. There are tons  of overweight people who aren’t ‘falling apart’.

What type of tummy problems are we talking about here? Is the pain located in a certain area (gallbladder is upper right below the ribcage)? Do you have any… errr… unreasonable tummy troubles (you get the idea)? Are foods not agreeing with you?

if you are having other issues besides the pain, might i suggest getting tested for celiac desease? It has a tendency to come on suddenly after a sugery, illness, or something major. All it is a blood test (to start with).

The reason i suggest this is because, well, i was much like you with abdomen pain (gallbladder died >.>) and i had other stomach upsets. I tested positive.

Well… just trying to spread the word, that sort of thing >.> its not fun…

If not, just ignore this last tidbit.

Awaiting the whole body transplant.

“My H thinks my weight is the problem.”

Hs always think weight is the problem. (Except in Turkey or Uzbekhistan where they think too little weight is always the problem.)

I’m with you … I officially became old when my doctor’s plan to fix my latest leg/knee/ankle/foot issue was the advice “stop doing that” … not cut back, not a modification, but just stop … at this point your limbs suck so leave them alone.

That’s when I changed doctors.

Would echo the above about possible gluten intolerance. Just because I read it was a good idea, I stopped eating wheat last year. Had no idea I had symptoms. Suddenly many of my inflammatory related problems are gone. No heartburn, less hayfever, joint aches and some of my fatigue related issues are better.

Kids came back for a visit, and to be a good sport, made pasta, pizza, and the old symptoms returned. I really had no idea what avoiding wheat would do for me. And I am not especially strict, had batter on some fish at lunch, for example.

The only think it didn’t do for me was cause fast and effortless weight loss. Sigh. As I can well relate to those 40 pounds.

Fwiw, I had an ulcer at the beginning of the summer (which thankfully didn’t get worse due to the nagging of CC parents- and I am incredibly grateful!!!). I am 21, definitely not overweight, and am a vegetarian who eats really well. I can definitely say in my case weight was not the problem but YMMV.

And yes, I’ve felt like I’ve been falling apart since I was little. I have had ulcers, I have PCOS, asthma, chronic pneumonia, Osgood-Schlatter (and knee surgery), etc. Now I’ve recently been diagnosed with a low lactose tolerance (and cheese is my favorite food ever). Heck, I even had 5 wisdom teeth! Can’t wait til a few decades down the line  (I’m holding out hope for that magic pill that will cure ALL my problems- I can live in a fantasy world for the next 30 years, right?).

Five wisdom teeth?
You “win”.

I am 42 and falling a part.

Sorry you’re having continuing problems.

I a very few years behind you in age but right there with you in disbelief on the aging body.
Why does every joint ache? I doubt it’s anything really serious…probably my own hunk of overweight pulling me down.

Guess I am happy that I don’t have joint problems. I feel that I have this constant burning sensation in my upper abdomen. I don’t experience any acid. This is 24 hours a day-it wakes me up at night. I hope my doc finds a problem to fix-this has been for 6 weeks already. BTW , my D is back and school and very HAPPY this semester.

ek, considering my insurance only covered four teeth, someone won but it definitely wasn’t me :p

If it were your gall bladder, I would not associate that with aging. For example, I had my gall bladder out at age 32.

However, if you have a burning sensation 24 hours a day, it doesn’t sound like your gall bladder to me (but hey, I’m no expert beyond my personal experience). Gall bladder attacks are very painful but don’t continue 24 hours per day, at least that was not the case for me. It wasn’t burning as much as sharp pain.

I hope you get to the bottom of it and that it doesn’t require a lot to solve.
