<p>If you’re going to be using it much, check the price of cartridges. Printers and faxes seem to have become loss-leaders for expensive inkjet cartridges. (My husband and I recently researched a new printer: $79 for the printer (color) and $49 for each cartridge, we’d need two (black and color), AND they only lasted something like 650 pages. We got a laser printer instead.</p>
<p>And for faxes, consider using a email fax service instead. Then it comes to your email and you can print or not as you choose.</p>

<p>I bought a cheap fax machine and have been very happy with it. However, I only use it about 10 times a year. Found the print cartridges on ebay at a very reasonable price.</p>
<p>At the pet shop, I have faxes go directly into the computer (Phone Tools or something is the program) so I can print out just what I need when I need it. No wasting paper or ink on junk faxes or on 15 pages of miscellaneous wholesale fish three times a week! For faxing out however, we have a normal fax machine. It’s at least 5 yrs old and working just fine. It would receive faxes if I wanted it to (and wanted to buy a new film cartridge). They share the same phone line. Works for us!</p>
<p>I get mine at Goodwill $5-$10 buckos. Also the thermal paper at $1 roll. If I receive fax, it normally on the computer or if on the fax then I just make a copy of the thermal. I normally use the fax to send signed docs that cannot be easily sent by computer.</p>
