Does anyone else feel like college is becoming way too competitive and political?

There is a really strange myopia on College Confidential (and the rest of the world). It’s true that the admit rate at HYPS is stunningly small. And these schools have been mythologized to the point where not being admitted to them feels like failure.

Yet the admit rates at schools like Emory (if you want a uni) or Haverford (if you want a SLAC) are 4-5 times higher: quite manageable for excellent students. More important, they are excellent schools that no one should ever feel ashamed of attending.

I’m not trying to shame anyone for going there?

cfruehe16, if you are responding to me, I certainly didn’t mean to imply that you were shaming anyone. Some people just do it to themselves, and it was going on long before you were even born.

Yes! I think everyone is so “HYPS obsessed” on this website. I know college is important, but a low SAT score doesn’t define a person.
