Skippy the Bush Kangaroo, about an Australian boy who had a super-intelligent pet kangaroo who was always getting him out of trouble? His dad was a ranger in a national park (and a widower, just like all 60s TV dads) and they lived at ranger HQ with his older brother, a helicopter pilot and a girl who was living with them and studying piano. I recently stumbled upon it on a religious TV channel and had forgotten how much I loved it as a kid.

I remember that the show existed, but as best as I can remember, we were just outside the reception area for our antenna and could rarely get it.

I watched a lot of TV when I was growing up during the 60’s, but I don’t recall this show. Flipper was my favorite “animal” TV show.

It was kind of an Aussie answer to Flipper with a different animal, even down to the two brothers and the widowed park-ranger dad. It was syndicated in the States and not every station carried it. It was on, at, like, 5 p.m. Saturdays or something where I grew up.

I think I saw it once or twice but don’t remember anything about it.

It watched it growing up in the UK… One of my favs along with Lassie and Flipper

Now I’m starting to get nostalgic for my childhood. I remember watching Lassie on Sunday nights, as well as Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color.

I remember Wishbone, from my daughters childhoods.
:)

I watched those too, as did my husband. His mom used to make them Kool-aid and popcorn to snack on during Disney, and we did the same for our two sons.
My favorite character on Skippy was Clancy, the girl who lived with the family. I thought she was beautiful, and I also had a crush on the dad - forget the hotshot helicopter pilot, but I was only 7, what did I know? I used to pretend Mark and Sonny were my brothers, Clancy was my sister and Skippy was mine, too!

I loved Wishbone, and my kids did too. I also enjoyed Kratt’s Creatures - at least Chris Kratt was halfway decent looking.

My D, who is a senior in college at a top LAC, told me Wishbone was how she learned most of her literature! Still remembers Wishbone plots to this day.

I don’t remember Skippy, but can’t kangaroos kill you? But then again, there was a show called Gentle Ben. (didn’t mean to rhyme;) )

I can still sing the theme…Skippy, skippy, skippy…the bush kangaroo

Toledo - Gentle Ben was a strange show for the 60s - they actually had a living mom. Whose first name was the same as mine - I remember my mom pointing that out when I was watching it when I was little.

Ah, but do you remember Lassie’s original owner, Jeff? (yes, I’m really, really old.)Timmy was annoyingly precocious. Team Jeff!

Oh, thanks… now the theme song for ‘Skippy the Bush Kangaroo’ is going through my head…

Loved Skippy, Gentle Ben, Lassie, Flipper… (oh, no, now it is ‘Flipper, Flipper lives in a world full of wonder…’ running in my head)

Well now I know why I wanted to be a park ranger.

Nuts. I know the lyrics to ‘Mister Ed’ also and now that’s popping in…
