my application at the moment if you’ve seen my previous thread is pretty barren. I was wondering if anyone had any awards, clubs, contests etc that I could sign up for as an international student. My current focus is more on the humanities and literature side with French, history,English, geo etc being my strongest subjects. My school doesn’t offer a lot of extracurriculars or opportunities and the leadership opportunities such as student council are pretty bland in a sense that they don’t really do any leadership if that makes sense.
I don’t mind any STEM extracurriculars/club ideas but I lean more towards the more exploration and scientific part of stem not the computer science/math side.
Just link any contests, camps, awards etc I could apply for in your replies!!
aside from school subjects I’m very interested in International relations, law, psychology, poli sci, philosophy and literature ( should’ve mentioned this earlier my bad.) so I’m looking for anything related to that.
(I’m currently still in middle school, summer before eighth grade and planning to start apply to prep schools in 9th grade)
also please link any ongoing novel/story writing contests below, thank you!!
Like animals? Take mom/dad to the local animal shelter, volunteer to walk dogs.
Help in a local food pantry
Find something authentic for you, not made up. They needn’t match your interests - but see if you are old enough to help at a local museum.
You are an 8th grader. Do things that you find fun.
This is exactly right.
Volunteering can be a good extracurricular activity. So can a job. So can starting a club. So can playing a musical instrument, or playing a sport.
When I was in 8th grade I would have had trouble thinking of any EC to add to my resume, other than a couple of sports that I participated in. I guess that I had already started playing chess at that point. However, I did these things because I found them interesting, and not for any other reason.
Do not do anything just to pad your resume. Be yourself. Do what is right for you.
If you get into a leadership position, then listen to others, and try to help the group as a whole. Leadership is not about getting your own way.
