Does anyone have experience with essential oils?

I have been experiencing massive hair loss shedding this summer. Dermotologist has me on spirolactone, and I think the mg needs to be increased.

However, I’ve been reading about Rosemary Essential Oil and went and purchased that along with a carrier oil.

There is all sorts of info as to the dilution rate. Some say 8 drops of Rosemary per ounce, some say less, some more.

I read one articles that said you can take one drop only and massage the scalp each night and leave until washing…but watch for irritation since it’s not diluted.

I tried 6 drops in 15 mgs yesterday and massaged into my scalp for 20 minutes. I washed afterwards and my roots were really limp…I can’t do that evey day as I would have no body in my hair!

Anyway, wondering if anyone has ecperience with this. I’m interested in using for scalp only to help re growth.

I don’t know about essential oils and hair loss, but have you had a full thyroid screening? My MIL was losing masive amounts of hair, was concerned at you are, and H told her to get her thyroid checked. Sure enough, that was the issue and once she was put on Synthroid, her hair came back.

I had a full blood work up and everything normal. Under a lot of stress and went on a diet in the spring, which was probably too low cal. Doctor is hoping it is telogen effluvium, which is temporary. I’m quite distressed. Had full head of hair beginning of summer… Half now.

Your ferritin level is normal too?

I don’t know what that is. I’m going for a follow up 10/12, so will ask.

Iron levels.

And as far as your thyroid goes, they need to do more than just a T3 and T4 panel if you really want a thorough picture (while my T3 and T4 were fine, other numbers were off for me) of your thyroid function.

Thanks…I will mention this also. It’s kind of scary that the docs are being mor aggressive and recommending these things…maybe it’s just mine.

do terra is one brand of oils, and their team of sales consultants should cover most of the U.S. You could find a local consultant who can help you with the details of how to use oils. I buy and use do terra brand oils, but am just at the beginning of understanding how/when to use them. It can be very overwhelming to try to take in all that detailed information about each oil.

(I do NOT sell oils, and do not want to generate any business from this post. Just pointing to the do terra website for folks who want to learn more.)

The Atlantic Institute of Aromatherapy is one of the companies that shares science based information about oils. I do not trust the MLMs.

Thinning hair can be related to thyroid or adrenals

Hi. Rosemary oil is used for hair care in shampoos and lotions. Regular use of rosemary oil helps to stimulate follicles. It makes hair growth longer and stronger. I read in a survey about hair beauty supply online store. I think this is a [useful reference](http://www.ehairwig.com/index.php/hair-care.html) for you all as it describes about hair care products. Also, Aloe Vera contains enzymes that directly promote healthy hair growth. Flaxseeds are a rich source of omega-3 fatty acids. They prevent further hair loss and encourage hair growth.
