Does anyone have information about Allegheny College in PA?

Theoden, thanks for your post about Allegheny. I’d like my DS to consider it but he too is interested in a couple of schools in the Midwest. May I ask which Midwestern school your son chose?

Thanks again

I think @Theoden 's son ended up at Knox, from reading past threads.

Hi! My son ended up going to Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois. Allegheny was a close second and it was a tough choice for him to make. He’s enjoying it a lot.

Since you’re new and you need to have 25 replies to send out private messages to others. I’ll send you one if you want more information on Knox. You can reply to that if you wish.

My daughter is a junior in high school and I hope she considers Allegheny and Knox, as well as some other really good schools like Ursinus, Juniata, College of Wooster, Kalamazoo and some others.

Thanks very much Theoden. So glad your son is enjoying Knox. And thanks for explaining how CC works! Really appreciate how helpful you all are!

Anyone hear EA from Allegheny? If yes, was it e-mail or snail mail? Thanks.

Letter arrived Saturday via snail mail.

Have not heard yet, applied EA. Allegheny’s definitely one of my top choices, so I am hitting refresh a LOT. Did your portal change, @twodogsnight ? I hope it was good news for you.

My daughter got her letter today. No change in her portal.

Her portal was updated today.

@Orcus2020 I don’t think my S checked his portal. Yes, good news!

Allegheny is well regarded in the tri state areas of Ohio, WV and PA, I know. My closest friends are alums, met there and have been married nearly a half cent now. Back in the day , it was a curve ball choice for each of them, the husband having chosen it over Lafayette, , Bucknell, , Lehigh, Dickinson. , the wife having chosen it over Connecticut College, Bryan Mawr, and Ursinus. They’ve done well and love their alma mater.

It is off the beaten track which can be a plus or minus to future students. It seems to draw the Kenyon, Oberlin crowd as well as those looking at other small schools in western PA like W&J, Westminster, Thiel etc It gives decent merit money and the academics are solid good.

My friends’ kids ended up choosing large schools in big cities over their parents’ college. My one child that I felt would have been a good fit there eschewed all LACs and chose a big state school.

That’s awesome, @twodogsnight ! Congratulations to him! Got an email from Allegheny today stating there is a change in my portal - logged in and clicked the status change link. Accepted with $31K annual trustee scholarship! The paper letter came in the mail on 12/24. So happy - Allegheny is at the top of my list and so blessed to receive such a large scholarship!!

I am new to CC and don’t know how this all works. I found this post and my daughter is considering Allegheny. She has been accepted but we live in CA and have never been to that part of the country so want to learn more. Have you found additional information?

I’m planning to go and visit - probably on one of their overnight offers. Allegheny has offered me the most generous aid so far, and I really like everything I’ve read about it. My ad com has been fantastic about answering questions and providing more information - maybe reach out to yours to see if you can find out more?

@2020CAmom Have your daughter go to an accepted student weekend. They are very helpful. My son was accepted there and really liked it. He ended up going to another small, Liberal Arts college, but Allegheny is a solid choice.
