Does anyone here use UW SpotBot?

What are your thoughts about it?

No…however I will warn against uw robot. a few times it worked…the one time it had a problem (it tells you the status and it wasn’t even checking) I emailed them with no response. didn’t fix it, didn’t respond to my many emails. not worth it.

i’ve never even heard of spotbot before…just went to the website, it looks like it’s free which is pretty cool

I’ve used spot bot since winter/spring 2011. It’s great. I run it on a desktop machine that I keep on at all times and it’s always has a clean interface and prompt texts. Of everything I’ve tried (macro on ff, scripts in chrome, etc) this one has been the best.

However, all software can potentially have bugs. I suggest that you also bookmark the enrollment summary pages of classes you want to get into and checking them periodically. Between software running, computer crashing without you knowing (assume it’s at home or something), no phone service, texts going wonky, it doesn’t hurt to manually check every now and then. :)

+1 spot bot. I’ve never used uw robot and don’t ever plan on it, although a lot of students use it.

[Registration Policy Update: System Abuse | Office of the Registrar Blog](http://depts.washington.edu/registra/blog/2012/04/25/registration-policies-updates-system-abuse/) Should I be concerned about this?

Hmm, interesting. I hadn’t heard about this update.

All I knew was that some robots/scripts were hammering the registration system … basically you’re supposed to wait 3-5 seconds before checking again, or the system automatically locks you out (you need ID and password to check the live enrollment summaries).

Good question. Let me see if I can find out more about this.

Damn, that’s good to know. Now I’ll be sure to use web-based services so they get banned instead of me.

Update on this.

UW Robot has APIs that UW IT gave them to access the time schedule/enrollment information with a UW NetID.

UW Spot Bot requires your NetID to access the enrollment information.

From a discussion recently, apparently there isn’t an issue with CHECKING the enrollment pages, but there IS an issue if you use a bot / script to auto-register.

You can write your own script to check the enrollment pages to email you or something when there’s an opening so long as you register manually.

lol the uw spotbot domain expired

Ah, looks like it. Haven’t been on that / used the desktop version for months.

Alright y’all, write your own scripts! (+1 to resumes if applicable, too)
