Why not just go into a good instate college that costs less too.

if you check CC, lowest 25% got 1870,but the good thing is that NYU does’t need SAT scores for admissions u can send in 2 AP or SAT2 scores instead, so i guess if you got 2 5/5 or 2 800/800,i think u got a pretty good of chance.

Lol, a while back there was this kid named Hugh Gallegher who wrote the most hilarious essay and got in. He had a C average, but was extremely creative.

But before you lose all hope try taking the ACT. I’ve heard of people who got 1800’s on the SAT and 34’s on the ACT. They’re different tests.

That essay is hilarious!

hahahaha

i bet that guy is the coolest guy you’d ever meet- even if he didnt do any of those things.

Oh, and babygrl9205: I know a guy who got into UCLA with a score in the 1900s, and same with my a girl who went to Berkeley. Do you live in California though? Because since UCs are state schools, it’s a lot harder to get into for people out of state. And, have you looked into UC Santa Cruz, or UC Santa Barbara? Cause you could most definitely get into either, and they’re still really great schools and have beautiful locations! As for Harvey Mudd, they do take ACTs… but your SAT scores should probably be a little higher. But when I went for a tour there they said that there is really no single “deciding factor.” So, depending on how good everything else is, you always have a chance!

Prumdi, I don’t think he did. I think that’s his point: that colleges expect people to have crazy accomplishments before they’ve even applied to colleges. Which, for the most part, is unrealistic. It’s very facetious.

by my post, i meant that i would expect the writer to be really cool because he seemed creative willing to think outside the box. and the essay was hilarious - so the guy must reflect his work

Less than .0000001%.

Maybe a 30-31 if you’ve taken the most rigorous hischool classes from an 1800, but its almost never that different.

I second those recs, definitely take the ACT. A friend of mine took the ACT with no studying and got a 34. I think her first SAT was about 1900. Its probably not common to have huge score discrepencies, but you could get lucky.

As for CMC and Mudd, both use a wholistic approach but CMC looks a lot at leadership and EC so a low SAT isnt so bad, but Mudd is less focused about leadership/EC so low scores might be more detrimental there. But thats just my impression of the two schools.

yiearh right
the national avarage sat score of kids going to college is ~ 1600. So does it mean a huge majority of students go to cc?

It really depends. If you go to a competitive high school and took several IB/AP classes, a 4.1uw average is very impressive and may outshine a low sat score. But if not a competitive school or IB/AP classes, the low sat score will just explain an inflated average. can work both ways

1800 is in the mid-80th percentile - its a good score. Don’t let the CC crowd drag you down. Write good essays and see what happens.

Unlikely. A composite 31 is about 1380-1420 or 2020-2070, so that’s solid jump from an 1800.

I have a friend who got into NYU with 1900…and he also got 29 on his ACT.
