<p>I got this idea this AM, after finding out we have tickets to the UF/West Kentucky game on Saturday…</p>
<p>Anyone interested in a clearinghouse thread for CC folks who are attending college football games this fall? People could post and if interested, PM each other and make plans to get together? (“Let’s meet at gate 16 during halftime…”) </p>
<p>I thought about doing this on the UF boards, but they are mostly kids and I was really more interested in all parents being able to get together, not just UF.</p>
<p>I’ll start:</p>
<p>Doubleplay is attending UF vs. Western Kentucky, Gainesville, 9/1.</p>
<p>doubleplay, I attend football games mostly h/s. D is a varsity cheerleader, so Im either selling concessions or cheering for the team. It is somewhat surreal to see these kids Ive known since they were in Montessori and kindergarten playing football. :eek:</p>
<p>I will be attending the Washington State U vs UIdaho game in Pullman on 9/15.</p>
<p>No college games for us…we are now Band Parents and are all booked up. </p>
<p>Tutu - We used be Cheer Parents too and enjoyed a brief one year respite from h.s. football games after ldgirl graduated; but ldson has now started h.s. and is a percussionist in the band…which means my dh is in the pit crew and I am a barf,I mean PRACTICE, tent mom. lol!</p>
<p>Yay, Tutu. We always went to as many Wazzu games as we could when we lived in WA…Go Cougs!</p>
<p>It’s been a few years now, but the girl who always babysat my girls when they were small married a Coug defensive lineman (he had a twin brother on the team), and I played for their wedding. So my family was seated near the front, right there in the rows reserved for the team–my older daughter was in high school by then and had a great time!</p>
<p>So what I was thinking is something like the acceptances/decisions threads…</p>
<p>Where parents could post the games (and it doesn’t have to be just football games) they’re going to, and if someone wants to PM them and maybe meet up or discuss the game afterwards, or whatever, they can.</p>
<p>Something like:</p>
<p>University of Florida: 9/1 vs. W Kentucky (football)- doubleplay</p>
<p>University of Idaho: 9/15 vs. Wash State (football)- TutuTaxi</p>
<p>Washington State U: 9/15 vs. U Idaho (football)- TutuTaxi</p>
<p>Western Kentucky: 9/1 vs. U Florida (football)- doubleplay</p>
<p>Then people can just copy and past their own info??? (Should be referenced for each school playing so people can look up games by college)</p>
<p>Live in Pasadena and I have season tickets to…now whats the name of the team that wooped USC last year?..oh yah…

<p>You can’t believe how disappointed we were to learn that our DD’s college doesn’t have a football team. NO FOOTBALL TEAM?! I guess that’s okay, though, because we’ve always been big UT fans, so I’m not sure I could root for another school anyway. I prefer NFL to college football, but I love them both. We’ve had season tickets since the Titans came to town and we’ll be in the stands tomorrow evening rooting my Titans on against the Pack.</p>

<p>p.s. I’ll be rooting for the Hilltoppers (my alma mater) when they play the Gators on the 1st. GO HILLTOPPERS!</p>

Hopefully (maybe) if this thread “takes off” it will continue into other sports/venues and you’ll have a chance to post an event you are attending at your DD’s school!</p>

<p>LOL, doubleplay. Sadly, I doubt any sports at my DD’s college will ever be of much interest to anyone (other than those who play, of course). It’s just not a big thing at her school. If sit-ins, demonstrations, politics and existentialism gain popularity as a sport, her school would be at the top of the list. </p>
<p>Do you dislike Phil Fulmer as much as I dislike Steve Spurrier? Of course Spurrier moved on (unsuccessfully) to the Redskins and then back to the SEC to coach the Gamecocks, but I have always disliked him immensely. I can just see that nasty little smirk of disgust on his face right now. Gosh, I can tell it’s football season … it’s on! :)</p>
<p>I never really kept up with Gator football until my oldest started there (last year!). I went to college OOS. I do love Urban Meyer, though. And I’m always very confused…why is Tennessee such a rival for UF? I can understand FSU, UM, UGa, USC…I must be missing something.</p>

After 13 years of being band parents at every High School home football game, H and I now have to decide if we will still go even though our kids are all out of the house. Probably will. It’s good, cheap entertainment.
After 9 years of attending every High School home game and 4 more attending every game (including playoffs) - DD is happy to be at a football-free school!</p>
<p>Speaking of band parents, I have a good friend whose daughter attended state u and was in the band. They bought season tickets to all home football games because they wanted to see their daughter perform! Also, the band would perform before the game…it was a wonderful experience for them (and a real tearjerker at the last football game).</p>
<p>It is an awesome college experience to be in the band. She did bowl games, parades…My son tries to get student seats as close to the band as he can…says it’s the best football viewing experience!</p>
<p>D and H will be sitting on the WSU side of Martin Stadium (newly renovated) and I will be w/ my good friend on the Idaho side - her H is the new HC for Idaho. Well, it should be an interesting game.</p>
I believe there are several things that have contributed to the great rivalry between UF and UT.
Spurrier is originally from Tennessee
Florida and Tennessee were two of the best teams in the SEC for years
Spurrier ran his mouth a lot … comments like “You can’t spell citrus without UT” and the like fed the fuel
Coach Fulmer’s wife was accosted at a Florida game once and had to defend herself against unruly Gator fans</p>
<p>Tennessee and Alabama was always a huge rivalry, but I believe the rivalry with Florida is just as strong. I enjoy having strong rivalries with other teams. It makes for a better game IMO.</p>
<p>Born and raised on Texas high school football here, but have happily embraced DIII football. Was thoroughly entertained by the game at Carleton last parents’ weekend in which three (!!!) safeties were scored. And where the Cheerboys - yes, the Cheerboys - react to a delay of game call with the chant “time is not a concrete structure!” I’m hoping someday to attend the big Carleton-StOlaf matchup, better known as the Cereal Bowl (in honor of the local Malt-O-Meal factory). </p>
