i’m planning on applying rd to NYU, and the app is due jan 1. i’ve been working on it diligently, but it has taken me a little longer to finish than expected, so i still haven’t submitted it yet. i’m planning on submitting it sometime this week, which will make it at least a week early. does anyone know if the time an application is submitted matters?

No, so long as you submit your application by the deadline of January 1, 2011, it does not matter if you send your completed materials in September or December.

AN issue that has come up is the timely arrival of your supporting documents, such as transcripts, secondary school reports and even recommendation letters which may not get to NYU by 1/1/11.

Even with those materials outstanding by 1/1/11, and if you have sent the parts you have control over, e.g., Common App, personal essay, supplement, etc., it appears that NYU has given students a few days (or more?) to get in the supporting materials, especially if the High School offices are closed or delayed due to the holidays.

However, as a courtesy and to ensure that indeed NYU does not view the (reasonable) lateness as a problem, I recommend you call the Admissions Office and make sure they know you have done everything possible to get ALL materials to their office in a timely manner.

I applied ED on November 1 @ about 11:45pm and was accepted…don’t think it matters…

Almost the same as jjohn42, I applied almost 10 minutes before the deadline (NYU’s Albert actually put my submit date as the day after the deadline) and I still got accepted for the period I applied for. As for evolving’s discussion about supporting docs, they gave me two weeks after the deadline to postmark them.
