So I need an edge when it comes applying to Lehigh. It is definitely is my number one choice. Would having a binding contract with Lehigh increase chances of acceptance?

If you need an edge then yes early decision will help you. Just make sure you are okay with whatever financial offer Lehigh may give you or not give you. Good Luck!!!

Do you know how much “edge” it would give me? I can’t seem to find any statistics for ED vs RD acceptances. Would it be pretty big?

Good question. I have no idea how big of an edge it would give you. I doubt an admission’s officer could even tell you a specific percentage. But, here is my opinion. There are a small group of kids who apply early. A smaller group gives you a better chance to stand out. Also, when you apply early you are making a huge statement about your commitment to Lehigh being your very number one choice. You are saying I want to come to Lehigh so much I do not care what financial package you offer me. I do not care what any other school is prepared to offer me. You are my TOP PICK. Any school, would just adore a student who feels that passionately about them. Your commitment to the school is your edge. Even if they don’t pick you for early decision you will still be considered for regular decision. If you really really want Lehigh then applying early decision is putting your money where your mouth is, as they say.

But, just know applying early decision means you are saying you are okay with whatever financial package they do or do not give you.

Whatever you decide to do, Best of luck!!!

Definitely agree. I got in ED1 last year and I felt like my chances were much greater because of the formal agreement. It seems like they need a good reason to reject you through ED, where regularly they need a good reason to accept you. I’m probably exaggerating but if it’s where you want to be ED is a great opportunity.

@Mastodon97 - here are some stats on ED and RD acceptances:
https://bigfuture.collegeboard.org/college-university-search/lehigh-university
Looks like ED is almost 60% and RD is about 30%
Good luck!!
I think most of the recruited athletes are accepted through the ED process. So it could be hard to judge how much early decision helps regular students or how many slots Lehigh devotes to early admission candidates that are not athletes.
