Does Barnard have a varsity field hockey program?

D got a form letter this week addressed to “Dear Prospective Student-Athlete”. It described an organization called “Barnard/Columbia Athletic Consortium”. Does this mean that Barnard does not support its own field hockey team? Do they recruit through Columbia? The letter offered methods for contact and was signed by the “coordinator of athletic recruitment”
She had not contacted any Barnard coach but had asked for admissions info, and I assume she may have listed field hockey as an EC. They may also have seen her at a showcase she attended.
She thought that she could not play hockey at Barnard because they did not have a team.
She is in contact with a couple of other coaches.
Anybody have any tips?

i believe that all barnard sports teams are combined with columbia. (please correct me if im wrong)

Here’s the website from Barnard http://www.barnard.columbia.edu/admiss/athletics/varsity.html

It looks like they combine students from Barnard and Columbia. I’d e-mail the coach and ask her. Coaches seem to be happy to answer questions that prospective students have.

Thanks.
I’m wondering how the students view this relationship. I guess I should cross post.

Barnard & Columbia have a joint athletic program - the “Columbia-Barnard Athletic Consortium”, which is Div. I and a member of the Ivy League.

Here’s a brochure:
http://graphics.fansonly.com/photos/schools/colm/genrel/auto_pdf/consortium.pdf

Recruiting is done via the Consortium - so it would be from Columbia coaches.

The consortium was established in 1983 when Columbia went co-ed, to give Columbia the benefit of the already-developed womens’ athletic programs at Barnard. Of course Barnard also benefited by the opportunity to share in Columbia’s greater resources.

Thanks calmom.
