It has been my experience with Catholic school in the elementary and HS level that there is always a added fee for everything, just one example at one elem school I had to pay $100 extra for my child to eat lunch in school as opposed to taking him home every day for lunch. Anyway I go to register for parents weekend and there is a charge of $20 to cover increased security and shuttles, etc. I thought that BC’s fees were high for student orientation, health service fees, activities fee, etc. At $48k a year, you think that they could absorb something. How much more extra fees are going to be imposed as the school year progresses???

I don’t recall any extra fees the rest of each school year. Our D just graduated. They never sent us a bill for anything else during the school year. We did get things in the mail for services (finals food, senior pics, yearbook, etc.) that were optional. We did not get anything except the senior pics and senior yearbook.

We have a S at Duke, and they seem to have a lot of different fees at the beginning of each year–but we get no other bills for additional items through the rest of the year.

No matter where they go there always seems to be something more you could add on to the bill!

We loved BC, and so did she!! Hope you and your child do, too!!!

I am of the opinion that BC tries to find a way to add any fee at any time. Today, my D and her 7 roommates were each charged $75 for leaving trash in their suite. My D and I were the next to the last “family” group to sign out of the suite and trust me, there was very little trash or damage to that suite. Needless to say, all the girls are appealing. This comes after a year of very poor maintenance service (calls/requests for repairs to a toilet and a leaky roof were unanswered and calls to help catch and remove a rodent unanswered, as well).

Dogwood, did your daughter live in Walsh? Sounds like my sophomore year experience if it is. Right now, I’m living in Ignacio for the summer and needless to say, the hot water likes to turn itself off after 3 seconds, the sink is clogged and the water is a foggy color of pale yellow. We’ve called work order numerous times, but all they manage to do is bring a plunger and call it a day. I want to get this fixed, because BC LOVES to charge that cleaning fee.

Hi randomgrandeur - Yes, she was in Walsh. 8 people in a suite was a tough experience for her and the $75 charge per person was just the icing on the cake. BC doesn’t just love to charge the cleaning fee, they love to charge for everything. It is a good thing that the students love the school so much or they wouldn’t put up with all that nonsense.
