Does being Canadian Perm- Resident have any advantages.

I am a Canadian PR in the process of becoming a Canadian Citizen(Hopefully confirmed before November)

I want to apply to Stern for ED1
I am taking all University Courses in my school (AP or IB doesn’t exist here in Canada)
Father owns a company in China

Do you guys think any of those stats help increase my chance over domestic students?

No advantage for Canadian citizenship. It’s almost offensive that you’d think that makes you any more desirable to adcoms than a “domestic” student.

A rigorous course schedule is good, always.

EDI does have higher admissions rates, but not much lower of statistics. If you are within Stern SAT ranges (2100+), then it will give you a better chance. Please, though, don’t apply early decision just because it gives you a better chance. The adcoms see right through that.

Nobody cares about your father’s company. Unless YOU have a company in China, or you are applying to NYU Shanghai, it won’t factor in at all. I am a little curious how you were planning to weave that in to your application. Key word? YOUR. Not your dad’s.

Source? ED Admit to NYU CAS (Computer Science and Economics)
Stats? 2220 SAT, 34 ACT, Top 25% Class Rank

hi aeisrael , thanks for the feedback

I do not think i am desirable, however i have heard that NYU has separate admission pool for international and domestic. And I have also heard that its slightly easier.

My stats in grade is 85-87%

Is that what Americans normally take, orcan i really call them University courses ?

bump: seems like no body really replied :(

It’s not easier for international students. NYU is not a UK university, it gains no direct advantage from having international students (UK universities get more money from international students).

If anything being an international student is WORSE for you because you’ll probably get no financial aid - meaning you’ll be expected to foot the entire $63,000 bill per year.

NYU will understand your application, they have plenty of foreign applicants.

Is your percentage system the same as that in US where 90%+ is A range? An 85-87% would make your translated GPA quite low if so. What are your test scores?

Hi, in my country (Canada) ,a 80% or higher is level 4(the highest lvl)
I have not done the actual test yet but my simluations are around 1900-1950 which i am working hard now to improve to 2100s

However, my mark in grade 9 (72%) and grade 10 (78%) are extremely low but since I have been able to make a jump of 6%+ every single year while taking the U courses in our school i really hope it can be one of my advantages instead of disadvantages.

I got in with a 3.2 freshman year…it’s possible. Just show a huge upward trend and a lot of dedication to NYU. Right now it’s a reach school for you. Get those SATs above 2200…

does 10%+ from grade 10 to 11 seems huge enough?

As long as you put improved your grades as much as possible, that’s all that counts. I went from a 3.2 freshman year to a 3.9 sophomore to a 4.7 junior year. So I think as long as you are getting A’s, then you are fine.
