Does being waitlisted at UChicago mean I have a chance at Ivies?

I got waitlisted at UChicago. Do I have a good shot Brown or Stanford?

No. Each application is a separate event with its own probabilities, and generally one result is not a very good predictor of the others. Colleges are looking for a subjective “fit” for each incoming class and that differs from year to year and college to college.

The responses to your previous threads still hold true. Both of those are super reachy, and almost no one has “a good shot” at either one.

Colleges have don’t have a clue about where you applied and your admission status. They have enough to do without seeking information about your status at other schools. Perhaps placement on waitlist at other schools if they knew would jeopardize your application the other school. To each his own.

It’s only a teeny, tiny sample but around here the students that UChicago loves are vastly different than the students loved by Stanford and neither is the same pool that Brown draws from. Stanford only takes our student athletes or sometimes a legacy. Brown wants our liberal, artsy, involved in 57 planet saving clubs, leaders of the recycling group who have had their poetry published in multiple magazines. UChicago takes our ultra-nerdy brains who look like they might be a future Fields or Nobel contender.

So unless you’re one of those very few students that’s just so exceptional (and almost certainly has a strong hook) that every college will want you, then I wouldn’t think what UChicago wants is relevant to the decision that Stanford or Brown will make.

But that’s just my guess based on what we see here. YMMV.
