does belonging to a minority group help you

Hello i belong to a religious minority group being a hindu so will it be of any help while applying to cornell

Being a Hindu and of Indian ethnicity is not a rarity for any top American college. Have you ever stepped foot on one of those campuses?

What? Lol!

@carbon111

first of all, religion doesn’t matter at all in terms of college admissions (i dont think it can be anyways), second of all, being indian or of indian origin does not necessarily give you benefit because Asians overall are overrepresented (as per percentage difference in population and in colleges top) most top schools have over 15-20% Asian/pacific islander populations so I dont think that beign asian helps you at all. Some say that it hurts you but no one knows for sure. But the final thing is that NO you dont get special consideration/advantage for beign Indian/asian.

If it means anything at all, it might be a disadvantage. Most South Asians are grouped with East Asians and Pacific Islanders in the “Asian American/Pacific Islander” demographic for college admissions. Many believe that Asians have a harder chance of getting into top schools than any other demographic.

1) No.

2) Stop trying to backdoor it.

Lol someone’s jimmies are rustled.

“Minority” groups are usually categorized for US students who are typically underrepresented groups in US colleges and universities: Native American, African-American, Hispanic American, Pacific islander.
