Does Brown Care About What You Did In Middle School?

So, does Brown care about what happened during your middle school years or just high school? I’ve been thinking about that lately.

In middle school, I was able to compete in science fair and band competitions. However, in high school, extra activities, like science fair or history day, have been cut because of lack of funding. Could I include what I did in middle school? Or at least 8th grade?

The only things I had on my resume from middle school were Student Council and Destination Imagination, only because my team placed 4th in state in 8th grade, and kept placing through 10th grade, and because I have had consecutive officer positions in Student Council since 7th grade and am co-president of my current high school’s.
I would advise against it unless they are very important activities that you continued in high school.
Then again, I’m not an admissions officer. if Brown visits your school, that might be a good thing to ask. You could always comment anonymously on Brown’s admissions blog with this question.

They do not care, whatsoever, unless it’s continued into high school like potterpie’s.

I do know, however, that you could have straight Fs in JH and still get accepted into Harvard if your had straight As in HS.

potterpie: I’m still in band, so maybe I should put it… I’ll try to ask.

truzzi- I would be careful with that advice. Some districts may offer accelerated courses in middle school that would be counted as high school credit. For example some math and english classes I took in middle school are on my high school transcript. So failing them would have been disastrous for me. :P

I’m pretty sure that if you fail EVERY class in middle school, you won’t find yourself in high school in any case.

You’re getting desperate here. Just let it go…

I think that achievements in middle school (or even elementary school) might be worth mentioning if they are extremely impressive (i.e., if you were on “From the Top” in 7th grade, or published your first novel at age 9, I’d mention it). It might also make sense if it’s something that continued (i.e., if you were in All-State Band each year from 6th through 12th grade). Otherwise, no.

Middle school doesn’t matter. It really doesn’t, colleges don’t care about your activities or your grades from middle school. I don’t think its a good idea to put activities like your 8th grade science fair on you resume, especially because you don’t want to have a resume thats very long. When it coms time to edit down you resume and make it shorter, stuff from middle school will be the first to go. For a second opinion confer with your guidance counselor at school, or you parents.

Okay. I won’t mention it then.
