Hi all!
I am an international student, and I was just wondering if applying for UC Berkeley under “Undeclared with Pre-Business Admin” would affect my admission chances?

P.S., does applying for merit based scholarship diminish your admission chances too?

As a freshman admit you don’t declare your major till the end of your sophmore year. As a transfer coming in as a junior you apply under a major but still must petition for it once you are admitted, since all transfer students are incoming as “undeclared”. Basically, no, being undeclared will not hurt your admissions…depending on the college you are applying. About the scholarship, I don’t get how that would negatively affect your admission…

if you are pre-biz, then you would most likely be applying to the College of Letter & Science, and they do not care about intended major. But if you were applying to say, the College of Engineering, the intended major is a consideration for admissions.

UC’s have poor financial aid for instaters, so its even worse for Internationals. Worth applying however, to see what they offer.

So, in other words, applying for Scholarships doesnt diminish an applicant’s admission chances?

Because I heard that applying for need-based aid in certain need-aware schools like UPenn will DEFINITELY affect your chances of admission (esp. for internationals). So I dunno if that applies to scholarships (or not)

No, it doesn’t for Cal, because all the scholarships listed on the UC app are for US citizens only, so you don’t qualify for them anyway. (Unless you’re a US citizen, in any case, it doesn’t affect your app).
