This is some really random question, but does CAT6 matter? The only reason I am asking this is because one of my teacher said it does. Well, does it?

I’m assuming you are referring to the California STAR tests?
If so try searching for “standardized tests” in this forum.

lol, no they don’t matter an ounce. anyone who tells you differently is simply wrong.

They don’t matter to colleges, but they do to your high school.

It won’t matter to you. They use it to compare high schools to each other.

absolutely not. But, don’t let your HS add it to your transcript, since it is not necessary for anything.

“It won’t matter to you. They use it to compare high schools to each other.”

It does matter to him. If his school as a whole does well, they get more money from the state which means better educational programs for him.

Our principal announced to our school that the California Standards Tests are important. If you pass them with 370 and above in each category you will get a gold seal on your diploma. Also it may count as a college placement test. Say if you happen to score really well you may not have to take a college placement test, or if you score really bad they may start you off in lower level courses.

I think last year (in Cali) there was an optional portion that could count for the CSUs.

am I the ONLY one that thought he was talking about ethernet cables???

baumb:

sorry, the CST will count for NOTHING for college…the Cal State system does add an optional test (math and egglish) for placement purposes. My S chose to skip them and finish early.

no, youre not alone on that one.

Well my teacher said they just found out thursday that starting this year if you score proficient in all categories you will get a gold seal…(and this will look good on college applications since everyone takes the same test)…I’m not entirely sure about the deciding where you are placed thing (that is just what i heard), but i would still try bc the gold seal sounds like a nice thing to have, bc a lot of people won’t get it bc they don’t know about it so it will make you stand out as one of the stronger california students.

me three…

you get a gold seal, but keep in mind that by the time you recieve your diploma, you will have already been accepted to numerous schools, and that the seal itself will not have mattered for anything.

good for the ego, maybe, but i just prefer not to waste time with any more state of california tests than i can help.

proficient just means you are at the ~50 percentile in the state, which is ranked #xx in the country…great for Cal State, but absolutely worthless for any selective school. Moreover, colleges will not see your actual HS diploma – they much prefer SAT scores.

Don’t get me wrong… I told my kids to try as hard as they can for the sake of the school and their teachers. But, for them personally, the test is meaningless.

my english and math teachers said if we do bad theres no letter of recs for anyone next year

I’m just going off of what my teacher and principal said, im not sure if they are right…I am just repeating what they told all the students at my school.

I thought this thread was about CAT5e versus CAT6 Ethernet cables.
