Does CB sometimes include irrelevant info in math questions to trick us?

Hi, has anybody seen SAT math questions that contain irrelevant number information that seem relevant, but never used for the answer?? Does the CB do it to trick us or do all information that the question gives us is relevant for our answer?

Scrolling through past CB sample questions I’ve seen online, it seems like the vast majority of questions do not contain any extraneous information (other than questions containing scatterplots or lots of data in which you only pick out a few points). There may be the occasional question that contains info that is not necessary. A typical example might be an average rate problem, e.g. I travel 24 miles to and from work. Going there I average 30 mph, and coming back I average 40 mph. Find my average speed.

A safe strategy is to assume that all info that the problem gives you will be used, and if there’s one piece of information that isn’t used, ask yourself whether it is necessary to solve the problem. Usually the answer is yes.

Yep. In the official practice test for 2014-2015, there was one question with extra info. They asked us about store B’s total rental videos and gave us not only store B’s total premium members and average rental per premium member but also store A’s total premium members. It was kind of weird because after that part of the data store A was never mentioned again.
