Does college campus size matter to you when selecting a college you want to attend??

Well, Woodbury University is my first choice of college and I got accepted on Wednesday. They also offered me a renewable $7,500 Academic Scholarship. I did some researching yesterday online about the university. The only problem is that the size of the school is only 22 acres…which incredibly small compare to other universities, its about the size of my high school. Well, I want to attend a school that is at least 1,000 acre because it has more diversity. Woodbury University only has about 2,500 total with undegrads/grads. That is REALLY SMALL amount of students. I guess that is a good thing for class sizes. I am having second thoughts of attending this school because of the small amount of students and the size of the campus. My second choice is University of Redlands and third choice is CSU Northridge…but I really don’t want to end up attending a CSU if I get rejected from University of Redlands. I am going to tour the campus next month and if I like it…I will attend there. When it comes to the size of the college, does it matter to you??? Should I let it be a reason to not attend a college because of the size??

I think it depends on the person. For my daughters, yes, it was a strong determining factor. My best advice for you is to visit as you are planning. So many questions will be answered.

Twenty-two acres for 2,500 students is quite small. You should definitely visit (if you haven’t) before you commit.

One thousand acres for 2,500 students is quite (maybe excessively) large, though. To put it into perspective, a square mile is 640 acres.

I think it’s a matter of personal choice; there are a lot of reasons why people do or do not like a particular college. It’s part of that whole elusive concept of “fit.” While in theory, it probably should not matter how large a campus physically is, the reality is that it may not feel “right” to you. My DD visited Belmont U and took it off her list almost immediately for various reasons, but the biggest one was that she felt “claustrophobic” and closed in. I don’t think you’ll know for sure until you visit.

How did Woodbury become your first choice if you only researched it yesterday to find out it is geographically small? What had you heard about it that made you apply?

What is more important to you? Campus size or student density? Stanford and Duke have huge campus size, but low student density. NYU has huge student density on paper (lots of students, no real campus), but in reality, a lot of the students are coming and going, part-time, etc.

Actually I have done some research before I apply for Woodbury University…I already knew that it is 22-acre before, but I never thought 22 acre was so small, I thought it was pretty big and then yesterday I just found out 22 acre is really small. I applied there because they have a fantastic graphic design program and I want to major in graphic design. So, I want to attend a college that offers a variety of art majors. Campus size and student density are both very important factors for me when choosing a college to attend. I will just see when I tour the campus next month, maybe the campus size won’t matter as much when I actually visit the campus.

Ah, that explains it. I only recently learned what an “acre” is. It historically is the amount of land one man and one mule can plow in one day. It became standardized to be a fixed size, which is about an american football field plus one end zone (not both). So whenever I hear the word acre now, I just substitute “football field” in my mind.

It’s actually probably a bit smaller than your high school. Woodbury has [1500 students](http://www.woodbury.edu/s/131/index.aspx?sid=131&gid=1&pgid=1288), of whom 1300 are undergraduates.

No, I meant 22 acre is about the size of my high school campus from what I have been told. Wow…only 1500 students in total?? Are you…serious?? That is so small! =0

Your high school campus as 22 acres? My high school barely takes up ONE acre and we have 1200 students. I guess if you count the fields, there are a couple more… five tops…

Does college campus size matter to you when selecting a college you want to attend?

Size and landscape ( usually not a big issue as size, most landscapes are nice if size of campus is not small) of campus always matters when selecting a university to attend for me.

Personal preference…it would matter to me, for the same reason I wouldn’t choose an urban college. I like lots of room, open spaces, forests would be nice too

well in my high school…there is about 2,500 students…its REALLY crowded in my high school…sometimes I can’t even get through the halls because of the amount of students…its really hectic!

If you are used to a small school then maybe you should try to stay a night at the bigger college… that way if you don’t like the noises of city or campus “parties” you will figure out which one you like better… also you should know if you like a lot of teacher help cuz in a big school that kind of help is not as easy to come by

my campus is 17 acres and has 2400 students and is really crowded
